the pilot of The Bridge

I really am on hiatus. But...

I was actually pretty impressed with myself for being able to enjoy him for most of the show. He was acting well, and despite some superficial similarities (ie, the whole working-class, man of the people thing) between this character and Chief Tyrol, they're different characters in a lot of ways, and in just the two-hour pilot I'm already seeing that Douglas has more acting chops than I thought, because he's really showing the difference between these characters that are superficially similar. So I thought we'd turned over a new leaf.

And then the dead wife, and I was amazed how much that was just instantly a deal-breaker. I think if it had been any other actor, I would have been pissed off, yes, but I might have been willing to see if the show could redeem itself. But instead all I could think about were the reports from Dragon*Con of AD being so delighted that Tyrol killed Tory, and then I started to wonder if he's got any creative control over this show (no idea about that; probably it was total coincidence, but still), and that just killed it for me. Blerg.

Such a shame, too, because even though I wasn't in love or anything, I did quite like what they were doing with the city, and I think the show does have a lot of potential.
