a wee bit o' Farscape flailing

Sometimes it's the little things about a show that make you love it. Like how you can take a fairly mediocre episode like "Thanks for Sharing" and throw in this gem of a scene that is among my favorites of the entire series. ( And it's all because Claudia Black rocks like a rocking thing! )

Can I just love your love of Farscape for a minute? Because totally awesome and yes and OMG AERYN LOVE.

I'm curious to see if my emotions will continue along that track.

Infinite Possibilities Part 1 and 2 have got to be at the top of my list for most favorite episodes from season three... perhaps only surpassed by the amazing Claudia Black in Choices, so you must tell me what you think.

The whole re-watching thing has been really interesting since I've gotten to season 3. Re-watching seasons 1 and 2 wasn't all that different from watching them the first time, really--I noticed things I hadn't before and that sort of thing, but my overall emotional state wasn't that different. But season 3 is a whole different deal: the stakes are higher, and the episodes are all so very rich, and every episode I watch just feels like it's drawing closer to this beautiful, terrible conclusion that is all the more beautiful and terrible because I know it's coming! So yeah, I'm really interested to watch IP 1 and 2 again. And all the rest of it. I'm sure there will be lots more flailing! ;)

I actually really like "Thanks for Sharing," but I suspect it's for the same reasons I like "Taking the Stone"--not because it's an objectively good episode so much as because it hits some of my thematic kinks. Aeryn's reaction to seeing her mother is so wrenching, and played out in such an internal, low-key way by Claudia Black, as you so beautifully describe, and it's happening against this huge backdrop of family politics and John's division against himself. I suspect, based on nothing more than my own instinct, that Claudia decided how to handle that scene; from what I understand, the directors gave the actors a lot of leeway after a certain point, because they were so in tune with the characterizations, and Claudia was able to successfully argue writers away from a couple of directions the writers wanted to take the John/Aeryn estrangement in S4 that would have, in my opinion, tarnished their basic understanding rather badly ( ... )

I know what you mean about TFS and TTS; both, I think, are potentially awesome eps that didn't quite make it to awesome. The themes are great, but something falls a little short. I still really enjoy both, though ( ... )

oh yes! you're totally right about that. It's been a few weeks since I saw that ep, but that scene is so totally beautiful. Claudia did a great job on that. It was as if Aeryn was reliving that moment of her life. I wish we'd seen more of Aeryn's childhood.
And I really should rewatch all of Farscape sometime soon. I watched all the eps in a fairly short time, so I've forgotten what some of them were about... :-s

I've really been enjoying re-watching the series more slowly. I blew through it the first time at breakneck pace because I was just so very addicted; it's nice to slow down and pay more attention! Farscape is one of those shows that needs to be watched over and over again, I think.

And OMG your wee Aeryn icon is so adorable!!!!!!

Doesn't she, though! ;)

You know, I've never really fangirled an actor before; I've always been very interested in certain characters but not all that interested in the actors who played them. But I've definitely turned into a bit of a Claudia fangirl, partly because I now love two different characters she's played, and partly because I just think she's amazingly talented. I still don't feel like a fangirl in the sense that I don't want to go meet her at a con, and I couldn't care less about her actual life (other than, you know, general well-wishes). Nevertheless, fangirl I definitely am!
