For the Love of Seattle

Every once in a while, social networks enable something truly awesome and novel.

Someone named Susanna Williams recently started a group called "Peter Steinbrueck, for the love of Seattle, RUN FOR MAYOR!". This was before the local papers mentioned the possibility, and, I think, before anyone had really suggested it to him.

Before long, several hundred people had joined. Peter was alerted to the existence of the group, and asked its members to write ideas on how to improve Seattle in a forum in the group. Today, he wrote back, giving an in-depth summary of what he heard from people. He still hasn't declared his intent to run, but he's clearly considering it.

This is the best example I've seen for the future of democracy in America.
