In church today

We always sit in the front row, on the left side. Dunno why, but we always do. Pastor often pleads with the rest of the congregation: "Why don't some of you move forward; we have lots of empty seats up here." Ha! Our church has unofficial assigned seats, too. My family, second row on the left, last 4 seats by the stained glass window.

Once several years ago when I was visiting it was severely cold out and not many people made it in to Sunday morning worship. I was sitting there with mom and the minister finally stopped his sermon and said, "Rachel and Becky...could you move more towards the center aisle? I'm forgetting you're over there and it's making me paranoid that I'm not making eye contact!" We giggled and as we moved I looked around and there were only about 30 people and they were all sitting towards the middle.

It's funny how everyone sits in the exact same places and have for the 35 years we've been going there. It's easier to see who didn't make it in that day and raises alarms if it's an elderly person. "Someone call her after service to make sure she's OK and if she needs anything!"

And sometimes it's annoying. For years after I moved to Columbus and would come back once in awhile to go to church with my mom I'd get, "You haven't been here for ages." "Yes....I don't live here anymore. I have a church in Columbus."

It was really aggravating.

Blast zone. Love it.
