Many of you, my friends, have heard this story already. However, I feel it needs to be recorded for posterity.

Some weeks ago, I found this graffito on a table at the library. It has since been washed off, so I am really glad I transcribed it:

"I was listening to some "Drunk Talk" this past summer and the drunk said if mankind was not so foolish we could learn a lot from the whales. I thought about this and decided that if mankind indeed wanted to have our breeding and feeding patterns easily dislodged and to be so inflexible to change that we could go extinct then yes... we should learn from the whales.

"Fuck the whales. Eat their flesh and burn their oil. Don't fool yourself, Billy, if a whale could he would kill you and everyone that cared about you."

Next to this, two other people had commented:

"NUKE THE WHALES!" and (my favourite part of all) "I too dislike whales".

I don't know why I find this so endlessly amusing, but I don't seem to get tired of telling people about it.

Now I can recycle the piece of paper.

Oh yeah, this too, it's fun:

O.K. Back to cursing Rene Girard and Simon Goldhill. (They are in my Bad Books.)
