So to the universe that cares, i am going to rant....again. I am constantly stuck in a vicious cycle. The Melody cycle. I love myself for who i am but that stupid nagger in the back of my head constantly is whispering things in my ear. The sad thing is these things are true....i know i am being cryptic. That is the point of a journal where i have a ( Read more... )

I shall Accept (with a capital "A") this interesting line of deep philosophy - but with one caveat: Sure, we all have expectations of ourself (I plan to be storming the streets of Luanda in 10 years, commanding the Navy in 20 years, and running the country as my own personal fiefdom in 30 years. Will it happen? Of course not.), but I think it's even more fascinating to see how we turn out so different from our expectations. It keeps life interesting. And when you look back on your recent (and past) life and think about it, aren't you happy where you are right now? Consider if you had achieved those expectations. Sure, on the surface it would seem great, but what other unforeseen consequences would ruin that "perfect" vision or expectation for yourself?

We can't be perfect (though some of us are closer to it than others). We have dreams, but some are impractical, and some just not meant to be. Remember, GOD is in charge of all things. Our lives are for his purpose, not our own. Which is why what actually turns out is so much different from our OWN expectations. And that is why our lives' curious unpredictability is so exhilirating.

Masks......hmmm......I wonder what got thinking on that subject. ("Angellll of Muuuuuusic...") I agree with you, but I use this analogy: every person's life is kind of like an endless TV show. (Stay with me here. I'm not crazy. Really.) Every person around you in your life is a "character" in that show. And you could very well pass 80 years thinking you were the centre of the universe. But you are also a "character" in the lives of other people, and people expect you to fufill a certain role or vision of you that they have formed in their mind. For instance: Jon is a somewhat loopy but somewhat charming eccentric. Except when he's on the parade square, where if he smiles, he will regret it for the next 10 years of his (possibly nonexistant if he smiles twice) career. An exaggeration, to be sure, but an apt one, if I do say so myself.

So who is the real "you"? Maybe there is no composite "you". All elements of your character that you show to different people come together, even if they show themselves at different times.

Of course, I highly suggest you take off that odd black mask. Could be bad for your health.

On that irreverent note, I'm off to eat my pita and (attempt) to put to rest my sleep deprivation!

Your deep thinking
