MBC PEG Connect

Hey y'all!

As PEG alumnae, I want to encourage you all to head over to a new website called MBC PEG Connect. This site is part of a new alumnae undertaking to support rising PEGs. It's a program that's been 25 years in the making, and I'm sure every one of us will say it's long overdue.

The main page will host announcements and such (and eventually a blog), but the important part is the forums. Please pop on over, create an account, and start using the forums. They're for ANYTHING. Finding people, telling stories, listening to problems, and generally getting to know each other and having a good time. Most importantly, though, it's a private and safe place for alumnae and PEG students to connect on any issues they might have, academic or personal, where they can talk to someone who's been in their situations.

There will also be a mentorship program through this site. I know, it's something we've talked about before, but this time, we're going to make it happen. Through the mentorship program, you'll be able to interact one-on-one with students based on your background, courses of study, interests, locations, and anything else you might think of. It's purely optional, but I encourage you to sign up, so that you can share your experiences and maybe shed a little been-there light on a new PEG's story.

The third portion of the program will be the PEG Emergency Fund. It's not currently funded (but anyone who wants to help with that, please let us know ;) ), but the purpose will be to fund those things that rise up in a PEG's career that may not be able to be addressed otherwise. Maybe it's an emergency ticket home to visit a sick family member. Maybe it's a business suit for a graduate school interview that can't otherwise be afforded. Maybe it's a medical emergency of their own. Maybe it's a core class requirement that they couldn't otherwise afford the fees for. The point is that PEGs should not be held back by financial constraints (within reason), and that not all costs can be accounted for by scholarships and loans. Use of the fund requires participation in the mentorship program, because the mentor(s) and the fund administrators will need to agree on the validity of the request. But it's a small step toward facilitating PEGs as independent, strong, supportive women.

So please, drop on by and say hi!

Thanks!
