Okay, so I've been given background reading for an editing project that I'm working on (will be *plopped* soon, once it's finished), Breakfast at Tiffany's and High Fidelity. Apparently, the movie version with Audrey Hepburn is different from the book. I can't see how they could successfully make it into a movie. It doesn't seem like that kind of book. But then again, I have a slight "errr" toward book-made-movie projects, well, except for Harry Potter, because that's just that.
Anyway. Started High Fidelity first, got the idea of what I need to walk away from it with, then decided to start the other. Read it all, was pleasantly surprised, although it starts out slow, it was not bad at all. (From just looking/hearing random bits about the movie, I was never particularly interested.) I liked it. And now I'm about halfway through High Fidelity, just after he's seen TMPMITW. (And all this today.)
So, I realised I need to get my hands on books (actual books, not net stories because my eyes hurt form looking at the screen, which is why I've been devouring webcomics with more enthusiasm than usual. I need to close/cover one eye for it to not bother as much. actually, just seeing in general, but yeah.). I've also been reading a fair amount of essays.
We were assigned to read "Metamorphasis" by Kafka for lit. It's in this big collection of other satire essays. I've just swallowed whole most of those, and working through the rest. And a few weeks earlier, I was outside, by that playground for the child development kids, and a book of texts was on the ground, obviously thrown out the window (typical). I figured I'd pocket it and maybe read a little, but what really caught my eye was "Atwood." "Uglypuss" was all right, I'd like to read more of her. So, I decided it was mine and read. It also had "A&P," in it, which made me quite happy.
Also, during lit, one of those days we were reading aloud from Hamlet and when I was in no state to actually focus, I spied a copy of "Ender's Game." I checked the back to make sure it wasn't assigned to anyone who would miss it, and pocketed it for awhile. I had heard it was good, and reading a synopsis awhile back, was intruiged. Read it and damn. I also realised that it was what one of the fanmixes I had downloaded a bit back was about.
So, I need recommendations. Books, stories, articles, anything digestible would be awesome. Even more so if you actually have a copy you can lend me. Any suggestions? (I always love backgrounds.)
Not to mention, for the past few days, I've had "Moondance" stuck in my head.
one more moondance with you in the moonlight.
