I was sitting in class today attempting not to fall asleep/burst into tears, and decided to play a game of MASH with myself--something I have not done since maybe fifth or sixth grade. I was 12 years old in sixth grade. And as a 12 year old, I was still young and naive enough to easily come up with exotic locales in which I wanted to live and cars I wanted to own that were so fancy I didn't even know what they looked like, and I could giggle over it all with my friends because they were fantasies, but not inconceivable. New Zealand! Corvette! President of the United States! Picking four options for each category was so easy. It was fun.

When I tried to come up with options in class today, however, I was stumped. Was I really too old to have fantasies anymore, no matter how stupid or trivial? I still didn't know what a Corvette looked like, and I didn't really care. My dream car, I realized, was something along the lines of a Nissan Altima. (Silver, of course.) When trying to think of locales, my train of thought went something like: "No, New Zealand has really strict immigration requirements. So do the Netherlands, I think. ...Canada?" I had an easier time thinking of occupations, not because as a graduate student I have a clear idea of what my goals are, but because every day I seriously consider just quitting school and becoming a prostitute or trophy wife.

What were your MASH dreams when you were younger? What would they be like today? The things I ultimately chose were:

Places
New York
Germany
Canada
Latvia

Cars
Hummer
Mini-Cooper
Segway (I've been watching Season 3 of Arrested Development)
Ford Taurus

Occupations
Prostitute
Professor
Trophy Wife
Hostess

And just to warn you: Mushroom pizzas from Domino's are fucking nasty.

life is hard
