Yay! Fun news!

So Michael, Hannah, and I went down to Statesboro for this week to do the Music Teachers' National Association Young Artist Voice competition. It was pretty steep competition since the range is 19-26...and Michael definitely won!!! I mean, a lot of you reading this will probably be like, "oh, yeah, big suprise." But I'm really happy for him. I mean, it was a lot of work to come down here, and we all really worked todgether on stuff, so if somebody had to win, I'm glad it was someone from our "team." You know?
Anyway, Hannah and I got really great, helpful comments, and that's the great part about going to these things in the first place. We were actually discussing how much more helpful these comments are then some of the comments we get at other competitions, but I think it's because we had to sing a 30-min program for them, whereas in normal competitions, we're hearded in and out like cattle - sing your two songs and get the heck outta here! So they really got a feel for what our voice is and isn't good at and definite places where we need to work. And that's exciting to get three new perspectives, which, in my case pretty much agreed that I need to just get out of the way and let myself sing - you know, with my own voice, not try to manufacture something. Like I'm adding too much weight to my voice in places, etc. One lady said, "Just because you can make the sound doesn't mean you should!"
Oh, plus...
My wonderful little school, CSU, totally dominated.
Out of the Young Artist Competitions in Voice, Woodwind, Brass, Chamber, and Piano, we had people enter the Voice, Woodwind, and Chamber.
And guess what?
We won every friggin' one we entered.
Because, well, that's just how we roll.
