In general, the Sergeant enjoyed military life. The orderlies, the doughnuts, the spinning chair-all in all, life was good. Just now, he was enjoying a short nap in his lovely office after a nice cream-filled doughnut. Unfortunately, this pleasant state of affairs was not to last.
Private Jagger, an orderly stuck on gopher duty for Corporal O'Riley, burst into his office. "Sir, sir! Urgent message from the Who in Intelligence."
Private Jagger's piercing voice jarred the Sergeant from a very pleasant dream involving a meter-maid and some cellophane flowers.
"What's all this now? Ah, yes, thank you, Private." The Sergeant skimmed through the note. "My God...Private, do you have any idea of the contents of this note?"
"No, sir," the orderly replied nervously.
"Very good. Report back to Intelligence immediately.
The Sergeant pondered this latest news. Obviously, someone would have to inform the Queen, but he'd just as soon rather it wasn't him. She reacted so violently to the smallest things. Why, he'd informed her of an excess of mercury in the barracks' water supply, and she'd offered to send her bodyguard Steve to take care of it! He was quite sure he didn't know how a machine gun would help with mercury in the water!
Still, no one else would take care of it. Putting on his most long-suffering face, Sergeant Pepper picked up his hat and with the face of a marked man, left his office.
Striding down the hallway with his brim pulled way down low, muttering furiously to himself, Sergeant Pepper made quite the spectacle-or at least he did the first time it happened. That had been the Seaside Rendezvous, a complete humiliation for everyone involved. But this, this would surpass the Rendezvous, the Wooden Ship Affair, even the Disraeli Gears. Yes, today was a true tragedy for the entire nation. At that very moment, the Lead Zeppelin was bombing the Yellow Submarine.

To be or not to be continued...
