My summer Pt. 2 of ?

Jun 17, 2007 19:13

The next day I bought a metro day pass and basically walked around D.C. I saw the Washington Monument, The World War II Memorial (which was really cool), and the Lincoln Memorial. I also walked around Chinatown where all signs (including the Chipotle one) have to be listed in both English and Chinese. All in all D.C. is a very cool city and I can’t wait to go back sometime and see the nightlife on a weekend. After riding the rails all day I went back to Franny’s and napped for a bit to recharge. Upon waking Franny and I went to her favorite restaurant in Arlington which was this sweet hole in the wall place called “The Lost Dog”. I finally got to try Yuengling beer which was AMAZING and we ate delicious seasoned fries and other great food. Hopefully I’ll go back there someday because it is now one of my favorite restaurants too! We headed back to the 9:30 club and watched the openers “Stars of Track and Field” from the seats up top. They were pretty good, and they were WAY better than the opener the night before. The crowd was much smaller than it had been the night before but was still pretty decent for a Monday night show. When Joseph Arthur came on we went down to the floor to watch so we could be closer. The show was also very cool. Joseph Arthur has such a rockstar attitude which is rare in the indie scene so it was really very cool. His music is kind of spacey and I was reminded of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust album while we were watching. After the show we once again returned to Franny’s place for the evening. The next morning I was supposed to head to the XM studio to see a small acoustic session with the John Butler Trio. I got up in plenty of time and got on the metro that would take me right by the studio but upon arriving at one of the stations we didn’t leave. They told us that a car was broken on the tracks ahead of us and that we had to wait until it was fixed to continue. After burning about 30 minutes waiting we got going but by then it was too late to get into the show, so I called Franny and said my goodbyes. Before driving back to KY I picked up a case of Yuengling which I discovered was not just delicious, but cheap (8.99 for a 12pk of one of the best beers I’ve ever had?!!?). Then I drove back to NKY and my great trip to D.C. was finally over.
