Holidays -
My efforts to eat well during the holidays where completely obliterated through all kinds of goodness. To limit the damage Marianne suggested we just get rid of all the stuff we got through the last few days. It's better this way. I think I will ask people to refrain from buying me sweets as a gift from now on.
Like most other people I am sure a part of me is quite glad most of the holidays are behind me. I've always found the New Year stuff to be less hard on my system, especially since I tend to choose where I go on the 31st, leaving only one more family reunion (at most 2) which is a bit easier to handle. This year was fun but quite tiring. It made me remember the old days when I used to live in Quebec and our families where hawking for our presence. I did appreciate the fact that we did not have to sleep over anywhere, save one in Coaticook, but that never really counts :)
Movies -
Avatar (3D)
The 3D worked, to my great surprise. Well not always, but I am not sure if it's just me or my eyes. Interior scenes (with less green) seemed to work better and I had some problems with certain fast scenes, but it was quite impressive to the point I would love to see it again. The story is quite predictable and just like District 9, holds a hidden background story about a real life issue with oil companies killing off natives for profit.
The story was quite predictable, however I found the story well written and presented enough so that I could not help but pardon them.
Sherlock Holmes
I have to say, I was quite disappointed with this one. As hard as they tried to show a Sherlock Holmes with human weaknesses he still appeared to be beyond anything you could present him. Good acting and nice scenes, and Watson almost stole the show with the presentation of a side kick that is less than a Yes Man. It almost made me remember "Young Sherlock Holmes". I would go see this movie again for sure.
Games -
At the risk of sounding like Google Ads, Steam has been running a series of spectacular deals these last few days. Some are still good until January 3rd, some are rolling over a 24 hour period. I have missed quite a few good occasions because I thought I could hold off, but some of the prices are just stupidly low.
Most of the things I saw where quite cheap, in certain cases even as low as 2.50$, but if you read this early enough and are a fan of PopCap games (makers of Bejeweled, Peggle and so on), you should do yourself a favor and grab the entire collection for only 50$. I don't know how many games that is, but it's a lot and you would save around 150$.
