Since Anne and I are completely broke off our asses for the rest of the month, we where thinking about just playing some oldies instead. Sorry, Blades of Glory will have a wait! I've been thinking about a couple titles and finally came up with a list of both true cinema classics and great BigMac movies (TM)*. Snatch, Casino Royale (fuck me if this is not the best Bond flick ever), Mission Impossible III and Monty Python's And now for something completely different are currently on the roster. Either that or someone bring Blades over... Not street date has been set, looks like we will be having a busy weekend for everyone with Gaby's DVDs being split**. I'm thinking of Friday the 31st.
I picked up all my studio stuff today which was rotting over at Hugo's joint. Unfortunately it does not mean I'll be doing anything soon because I'm still without a location to use it, plus my muse has yet to show up. Maybe I should try to find a friend to just be there in front of the canvas while I tinker with stuff and get the hang of my gear. Speaking of studio setups, I have a funny and stupid story to tell. Some guy I know hired a noob to do his wedding photography. It should be noted that the groom is also a very avid and very noob photographer as well and since he's a mangement freak he wanted to have a hand in the whole thing. They decide to set up a make shift studio at the reception - nothing new here. Oh fuck it, it's probably easier to retell what I was told:
The guy - " Yeah, we fucked up one of the studio flash heads we rented"
me - "What? How?"
The guy - "It fell off the boom"
me- "Boom? As in... like a microphone boom?"
The guy - "Yeah. It's not our fault, it's [PHOTOGRAPHY RENTAL STORE]'s fault. Their rod was not like yours and did not attach the same way"
me - "Why did you have a studio flash on a make shift boom?"
The guy - "Because that's what we wanted."
me - "Tell me again how it's [PHOTOGRAPHY RENTAL STORE]'s fault?"
The guy - "Their rod could not hold the weight and you needed to screw in two parts instead of just clipping things together. Their stuff was weird."
me - "Yeah, totally sounds like their fault" (not)
The guy has criticized me in the past for not lending him my photography gear even though we are life long friends. I'm glad to see my instincts can sometimes be awesomely right. What the fuck where they doing? I be they where even hand holding that shit.
Readin teh Harry Potish. Nearing the end, good read up to now. Also finished watching the latest Ghost in the Shell DVD. I'm a bit late on that one since as a fan I would have watched it on day one of it's release. Like all other GITH story lines, this one is overly complexe and demands a high understanding of how their version of the future works. I liked the first season because they did a couple of shows before introducing the viewers to the main story line, it gave them a primer on the basics. Season two demanded that you've already watched season one and had no problems with the idea of leaving newcomers in the dark as the new plotline was even more complexe. This one tries to be more forgiving as they try to explain as much as they can without being too boring and just setting things up for too long (Appleseed was terrible for this). I guess it works but I would have liked to see a bit more action instead. But I'm a fan, so I thought it was good. Ghost in the Shell has always provided what I've been looking for in Anime.
* A BigMac Movie is a term I use to describe a flick that is pablum for the masses brains but is still cool to watch because of the purty explosionz.
** Maybe that would be worth a special movie night as well for those who where friends of his.
