baking a cake
I baked a cake this afternoon. It tastes great but looks like shit (which is better than vice versa). I tried to trim it by putting it upside down on a cookie sheet before it was cooled off enough and the top kind of stuck to the cookie sheet. It's a lemon cake, with a lemonade concentrate, powdered sugar mixture drizzled on it. The holes where it stuck can be fixed with frosting so I guess it'll be alright. The cake is for Penny's mom's birthday which was actually last week, but we're celebrating it on Thanksgiving. She's 85. I have to make scalloped potatoes first thing in the morning and then get down to LAX by 10:30 AM to pick up Penny who is coming in from Chicago. I hung Christmas lights on the deck this morning after screwing a couple dozen cuphooks into the fascia board. Then I read the condo newsletter that came in today's mail that says holes in the exterior of the building are strictly verboten.... after a trip to Home Depot for plastic hooks that attach to the rain gutters, I hung them again. Now I have to patch and paint a bunch of tiny holes. Merry f***ing Christmas.
