Long story short, these airline mechanics went on strike because Northwest Airlines was going to lay a couple thousand of them off. I dunno what you people would do if you knew you were gonna get axed, but I'd be preparing my damned resume and looking for another job...not watching someone else take my job. (reminded me of the South Park line, "They took our joooooobs!")
This company is my hero. "Workers we were going to lay-off in the first place? Fuck 'em! We'll replace them as planned, and not have to fucking remunerate them like we would if we had laid 'em off!" It's not indicated in the article, but seriously...if the assholes go on strike and the airline says "That's fine.", I would think the employer is basically off the hook for any additional compensation resulting from sending employees on their way.
If any of you know one of these mechanics, be sure to ask him/her what the fuck he/she is thinking.
