As for Quebec, this whole nation-status thing is absolute suicide for Canada... Harper is a devious little bugger. Main problem with Quebec becoming a nation within a state is that they could potentially succeed. If they succeed then it gives Alberta the OK to turn into a U.S. annex state... B.C. would likely follow...
Not too mention that if you give the Quebecois nation-status the Native Americans will all ask for it too and there will be no legal reason to be able to say no. Meaning Canada will become a perforated, fragmented shell of what once was a unified country... I could go on for hours about the other problems with this, but for now I'll just say: BAD BAD BAD.

I totally agree: this nation thing is such a bad idea for the county. But even if it wouldn't lead to a bunch of little countries north of the states and potential add-ons for the states, the idea just rankles. It goes against everything I believe in about equality. I guess in Canada speaking French means you're more equal than everyone else.
