That didn't go quite as planned...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

My new year's eve was spent at the doctor's office with my sister, followed by a late dinner with the family at her apartment, and a long SGA marathon.

I called my sis at about 3:30pm yesterday to see what time I was to come over so we could start our SGA marathon. She hadn't seen the last 7 eps of season 4. When I called, she said she wasn't feeling good, said she had heart burn and was feeling lethargic and that it had been going on for the past four days. And then she said some of the symptoms she was feeling were those of heart attack symptoms. I said, "I'm coming over to take you to the doctor's."

Of course, all the good doctors' offices were closed for new year's eve, so we ended up at the local hospital's Prompt Care walk-in clinic. Where we waited for over an hour before a doctor could see her. Mom came to join us as soon as she got off work at 5pm.

It turns out, sis has costochondritis. In a nutshell, it's inflammation of the cartilage around the ribs. Think 'heart burn' and sometimes 'chest pain' and you get an idea of the discomfort it causes and then some. It can be treated with a heat pad in the sore area, Advil or ibuprofen as needed, and avoiding physical activity. The sucky part - there's really no way of preventing it. :(

So after 3 hours of being at the clinic, we were pretty hungry. Mom went home to get dad and their computer. He wanted to take advantage of my sister's high speed internet (mom & dad are also on dialup) to get updates for their Mac so that he could get his new 8GB iPod to sync with it. 8-freaking-GB!!!!!. He asked me the day before he went out and bought one what kind of mp3 player I had and the capacity it holds. Mine holds a measley 256MB. I told him to go bigger than what he thought he wanted because you can never have too much space. I was very jealous happy for him when he showed me his new toy.

Mom called in an order for take out at a Mexican restaurant and picked it up on the way back to my sister's. We enjoyed new year's eve dinner at about 8:30 pm and then around 9:30, mom, my sis and I settled in to enjoy our SGA marathon while dad geeked out on the computer. Mom fell asleep halfway into the second episode. We woke her up for midnight. Dad took her home a bit after 1am. The last ep ended sometime after 3am. I think I climbed into bed at 4:30am.

Overall, it wasn't a bad evening, though spending time at a walk in clinic is not the best way to spend new year's eve. Our SGA marathon was fun. :D I'm worried about my sister, though. Her condition's not life threatening and the discomfort comes and goes, but I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
