the state of me

I found out yesterday the school district has cut everyone's pay salary, including my stipend. I'll be out around $200 less than I originally planed on.

On Wednesday evening, I stopped to get gas for my car before going to my church job. I parked close to a brick column next to the gas pump and cautioned myself to be careful. Upon getting back into the car, I reminded myself about the proximity of the car door and the brick column. No sooner had I thought that, my finger was caught between the door and the brick!

Many choice bad words followed. I could barely move my finger, let alone feel it. It hurt like a son-of-a-bitch.

In hindsight, I should have gone into the gas station to get some ice out of the soda machine. I didn't want to do that because I was pretty upset and in a lot of pain so I continued on to church hoping they had a freezer in the church office that might have some ice.

No luck.

They did offer a healing prayer.

By this time, my finger was sore but I could play piano. I did, however, favor my other fingers over my left middle finger. So for over an hour, all I wanted was some ice and advil. Normally, I carry a small bottle with me in my purse but not this night.

I had a bottle of water with me. It was cool (not cold, like out of a refrigerator) but it was better than nothing, so I held my finger against the bottle during the service.

By the end, the swelling had gone down some. When I got home, I immediately took some advil and iced my finger. It was better yesterday, but to bump my finger against something sent shooting pain. Today it is even better. I thought it would turn all pretty purple and blue. Thank goodness it didn't. My knuckle, however is darker than the rest of my finger.

One of my piano students gifted  me with a Barnes and Noble gift card and a book mark listing the 50 greatest books everyone must read. I've ready maybe 10 of them. Guess I have some catching up to do.
