The middle school's choral concert went well this evening. Something tripped the fire alarm (no, there was no fire!) during the band's performance and we had a brief intermission while the school admins turned it off. I was thankful it wasn't during the choir's selections.
I recorded the choral portion with my little Sanza Fuze and uploaded my favorites. Unfortunately, it's difficult to hear the choir; my recorder was too close to the piano. So I'll post the words and you can follow along.
Child of Tomorrow:
My favorite piece of the whole concert! No wonder, it's in my favorite key, D Major! :D This is the 6th grade choir performing.
Words:
Child of tomorrow, look now and see,
this world awaits you and all that you'll be.
Yours are the heavens and yours are the seas,
Child of tomorrow, go forth and follow your dream.
Child of tomorrow, soon you will go,
Knowledge and wisdom are yours to behold.
Yours are the heavens and all things below
Child of tomorrow, find your dream wherever you go.
Walk boldly and humbly wherever you go.
Stand proudly and honor the truth that you know.
Follow where your heart leads for there you must go,
always remembering the path that leads you home.
Child of tomorrow, look now and see,
this world awaits you and all that you'll be.
Yours are the heavens and yours are the seas,
Child of tomorrow, go forth and follow your dream.
The Rainy Day
The advanced choir (7th/8th grade) performs this A beautiful, sad song about a rainy day. The piano sounds like falling rain.
Words:
The day is cold and dark, and dreary;
it rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mould'ring wall,
but at every gust, the dead leaves fall,
and the day is dark and dreary.
My life is cold, and dark and dreary;
it rains and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the moul'dring past,
but the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
and the day is dark and dreary.
Be still sad heart! and cease repining;
behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fat's the common fate of all,
into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.
Je Le Vous Dirai
I learned this in 2 weeks. It's fun to play.:D It's a 16th century madrigal and the text is sung in French, but I will put the English translation below.
Words:
La, la, la, Should I tell? Do I tell? Should I dare to tell you?
La, la, la, Do you want to know? Hey, La, la, la, I'll tell you what I know!
There's a man in a nearby village, Jealous of his wife, you see.
He has good cause to be jealous, Handsome not at all is he!
Hey La, la, la, Should I tell? Do I tell? Should I dare to tell you?
La, la, la, Do you want to know? Hey, La, la, la, I'll tell you what I know!
When his wife goes to the market, He will follow close behind.
Watching every move she makes to see no trouble she will find.
Hey La, la, la, Should I tell? Do I tell? Should I dare to tell you?
La, la, la, Do you want to know? Hey, La, la, la, I'll tell you what I know!
Turns out, the choir will sing for the school assembly on Friday. One more performance.
