How Far We've Come

Aug 21, 2008 10:39

I had watched The Last Unicorn last night. It’s an animated children’s movie and I hadn’t seen it since I was a child and just for fun I rented it again. It always made me sad at the end even though it has a happy ending (of sorts). Watching it made me nostalgic. And then, just before going to bed I turned the ringer off on my mobile and saw that I had a couple of text messages. They were about Atlantis being canceled. I fell asleep with lots of mixed feelings.

I’m in shock. I knew this day would come, we all did, but when it happens…Just…nooooooooooo. *sob*

The writers have taken Atlantis down a path I wouldn’t have chosen (killing two major characters in so short amount of time, helloooo?!! among other things) Are they to blame? I don’t know. Are scifi idiots? Their track record answers that. (this announcement comes almost 2 years to the day of their announcement that SG1 had been canceled.)

I take comfort that this will open up time for David to work on his projects, Starcrossed (which scifi & David seemed very excited about, although with skiffy's track record of canceling shows before their time, I don’t have much confidence) and his film Design of the Dead. And there will be the SGA movies, but it won’t be the same as inviting TeamSGA into my living room each week. :(

It's been a fantastic 5 years! My love and uber geekyness for this show led me to the internet (not for the first time, but it began my addiction ;) and online fandom.  I found a little website with a forum- you might have heard of it ;) - called Gateworld. From there I found Live Journal and all of you! I've been to cons and met actors and peeps on my friends list. It's been a great ride! *hugs you all*

I'm beginning to feel that MatchboxTwenty's song How Far We've Come was an omen. It was the song skiffy used it for promoting the new seasons of their top shows, including Atlantis,  last December.

I'm waking up at the start of the end of the world,
but its feeling just like every other morning before,
Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone,

The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour and I,
started staring at the passengers waving goodbye
can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?

chorus:
But I believe the world is burning to the ground
oh well I guess we're gonna find out
let's see how far we've come
let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end
oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,
let's see how far we've come
let's see how far we've come

I think it turned ten o'clock but I don't really know
then I can't remember caring for an hour or so
started crying and I couldn't stop myself
I started running but there's no where to run to
I sat down on the street, took a look at myself
said where you going man you know the world is headed for hell
say your goodbyes if you've got someone you can say goodbye to

I believe the world is burning to the ground
oh well I guess we're gonna find out
let's see how far we've come (right now)
let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end
oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,
let's see how far we've come
let's see how far we've come

Its gone gone baby its all gone
there is no one on the corner and there's no one at home
well it was cool cool, it was just all cool
now it's over for me and it's over for you
well its gone gone baby its all gone
there's no one on the corner and there's no one at home
well it was cool cool, it was just all cool
now it's over for me and it's over for you

I believe the world is burning to the ground
oh well I guess we're gonna find out
let's see how far we've come
let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end
oh well, i guess, we're gonna pretend,
let's see how far we've come, again
let's see how far we go
let's see how far we've come
let's see how far we go
let's see how far we've come
let's see how far we go
let's see how far we've come
let's see how far we go

Random thought: Creation has announced that this year's SG1/SGA Burbank con is the last one they're doing in the area. Coincidence? I thought I read of another SG1/SGA con of theirs on the east coast that is also wrapping up this year. I had wanted to get back to the Vancouver con in the spring at some point to tour the SGA set again. I was hoping to get up there again in 2010. Will the set even still be there then? :S
