Title: You’re My Boyfriend?! Are We Even Dating?
Pairing: Ryoda
Genre: Fluff, Romance
Summary: Tatsuya is not dense. He just doesn’t like to act on whatever hint he’s getting choosing to hear it from the horse’s mouth than assume he got it right. Ryo likes to assume things that it’s going his way although there are no tell-tale signs that he’s right. Simply put, he’s just full of himself.

A/N: I’m alive! I’m alive! XD I’m back! It’s been a long while, ne? Did anyone miss me? Probably not. *pouts* After the dreaded board exams, I took my much needed break. And I thought I can write something during that time. How wrong I was! Writer’s block decided to give me company through my ‘vacation’ and forbid me to be productive. I fought against it vehemently and glad that in the end I won. I guess being stubborn has its upside as well-aside from always getting what I want. *grins*

I would like to dedicate this to granity20 who fought the writer’s block with me. Comrade! XD And to jubelcinta whom I’ve promised that I would post a fic soon. It’s a different one from the fic about the ocean I told you both about. I’ll post that soon.

Tatsuya choked on his own breath. He feels like his eyes would fall out of their sockets soon and would roll on the floor and out the streets. But he tried to keep his composure. He smiled sweetly, greeted people, bowed if necessary, made conversations and went with the flow. Anything else will be dealt with later.

What has happened, you might ask? It’s best to go a few days back.

Ryo was in Tatsuya’s apartment. There’s nothing unusual about that. They’ve gone past their differences and can even call each other friends. Gone are the days they would bite each other’s head off whenever they are within a mile radius. The Osakan is currently lounging on his couch like he owns it munching on popcorn while watching some movie he brought with him. Tatsuya got used to that already. They’ve been friends for a couple of years now and Ryo even slept over a few times-in different rooms, of course. Tatsuya just finished cleaning up the kitchen after their dinner that Ryo made. He sat beside the younger man and dug on the popcorn. There’s nothing unusual about that too.

“Ne Tat-chan, come with me next Saturday. It’s my parents’ wedding anniversary,” he said. Now that’s unusual. They have been friends, yes. But not close enough to warrant him attending family gatherings in the Nishikido household. And it’s his parents’ wedding anniversary. He would have expected Ryo to bring Yamapi or Jin with him since they are his best friends or even Uchi whom he had a more than friends but less than lovers sort of thing. He wonders why it was him Ryo will be bringing in that party. He checked on his schedule and gave his assent making a reminder of the event and to pick up a gift for the couple.

Saturday came soon enough. Tatsuya made sure he got everything he needs so as not to forget anything. Ryo came earlier than the time they agreed he would pick him up. Ryo has always been prompt but it’s still an hour before they had to leave for Osaka. It’s way too early Tatsuya thinks.

“You’re waayyy tooo early,” he said it as well.

Ryo didn’t retort but was just looking at him. “What are you wearing?” he asked.

“Clothes, duh!” He just feels like being sarcastic. He and Ryo have been friends but that doesn’t mean they don’t argue anymore. They would not say no to a friendly banter now and then or even a debate when the topic is more serious. But today, instead of making a witty comeback, Ryo dragged him inside his room and picked clothes in his closet. “Wear these.”

“Since when do you pick clothes for me?” Tatsuya asked slightly peeved. He was dressed properly. He’s wearing a V-necked gray shirt that hugged his body well underneath a jacket with frayed edges. He paired it up with cropped pants and boots. He thinks he actually looks nice. But no, it doesn’t seem to pass the taste of the Sexy Osaka Man.

“Just wear them, please?” Ryo said. Ok, now there’s really something wrong here. Since when did Ryo says please and not bicker with him? He almost looks like he’s nervous just like that time when Tatsuya asked him if he can stay the night because of the storm. That time, he thought Ryo is just not used to having him around yet.

“What are you nervous about? It’s just your parents’ wedding anniversary, right?” Tatsuya asked tentatively. “Or is it because you’re worried I might embarrass you?”

“No! No! Nothing like that… And I’m not nervous. Just change into that, okay? And bring some overnight clothes as well. They might ask us to stay.”

“Oh, okay. That’s fine. You should have told me earlier so that I can have it ready. Well, I guess that’s why you came early, ne?”

Ryo just nodded before going to the living room to wait for him. Tatsuya took that as a cue to get ready and changed into the clothes he picked. It looks like Ryo just want him to up his casual look. So instead of the cropped pants, he chose a pair of dark jeans and traded his jacket with a blazer. Not bad. He picked some change of clothes when he put the one he was wearing earlier back in the closet and added a few extra shirts, just in case.

“I’m ready,” he said as he step out of the bedroom. He was answered with a smile and they left making sure to lock up behind them. The ride was a pleasant one with their usual conversation about music, books and food. Companionable silence joins them every now and then whenever he catches Ryo looking at him while waiting for the light to change. The younger one is always the first to break the ice. Sometimes it makes Tatsuya think that he’s the only one getting affected by those stares. Ryo doesn’t seem to mind being caught nor is he apologetic about it. He simply smiles at him whenever he’s caught staring.

A few hours later, they are on their way to the backyard where the party will be held. The party hasn’t started yet and guests have yet to arrive. For now, it’s just the family busy making sure everything is set up. He and Ryo approached his parents to pay their respects. Tatsuya greeted them before handing his present. Ryo’s siblings gathered around them with curiousity sparkling in their eyes. It is understandable since it’s their first time meeting Tatsuya. However, he was caught by surprise when Ryo took his hand and laced their fingers.

“Minna, I’d like you to meet my boyfriend, Tatsuya,” Ryo announced with a smile looking so proud of himself.

And that was why Tatsuya choked on his own breath, eyes almost popping out. He even thought he would pass out. But he doesn’t want to embarrass Ryo; so he played along. That and the fact that he’s been in love with Ryo for quite sometime now. Since they started getting along, he saw a different side of Ryo-the caring, thoughtful and sometimes sweet.

Now, Tatsuya is not dense. Sure, those things that Ryo did might mean he likes him but Tatsuya doesn’t want to assume. Mainly because he doesn’t want to be disappointed and get his heart broken. Ryo never said anything closer to a confession. They go out just the two of them. No, Ryo didn’t ask if he wants to go out or have dinner with him. The younger man always assumes that he’s available and that he wants to go with him. He’s saying something similar to “We’re going shopping tomorrow” or “Come over, I cooked dinner.” Not that he’s complaining but asking him out would be nice, right?

When the party winded down and most were cleaned up, Tatsuya found himself on the back porch looking at the stars and replaying the day in his head.

After the initial shock of the announcement wore off a little, Ryo’s sister dragged him to buffet table with a pretense of arranging the food, which were already set up by the caterer. She asked how long they have been going out and what he liked about his brother. Not knowing how to answer, he just said it was not long and honestly answered what he really liked about Ryo. She looks like she was back to being a high school girl curious about her friend’s first boyfriend. The rest of the family are not as enthusiastic but you can see that they approve of their ‘relationship’ and are happy for Ryo.

Ryo didn’t treat him any differently although he noticed things that he wouldn’t have paid attention to before. Like how he would brush a stray hair and tuck it behind his ear with hands lingering a little too long or how he would ‘accidentally’ grab his hand whenever he’s within reach. Other things are the usual things Ryo do. For example, he gets Tatsuya’s food for him, serve him even or drags him away from a boring conversation or when the person he’s talking to started to make a pass on him.

The rest of the day went fairly well. He got to know Ryo’s family and even played with some of his nieces and nephews. He was shown Ryo’s baby pictures and was told of his childhood escapades. It was fun but now, he’s starting to get nervous. It would be the first time he would sleep in the same room with Ryo. He wonders how that would go.

His pondering was abrupted when a pair of arms circled his waist and Ryo’s chin was resting on his shoulders. He was startled and his heart started pounding. This is the closest Ryo has been.

“What are you thinking about?” he asked. It’s starting to irritate Tatsuya how Ryo never seemed to like explaining things. He didn’t even bother to say sorry that he was suddenly introduced as a boyfriend. He disentangled himself from his ‘boyfriend’ and faced him with a stern look.

“Why did you introduce me as your boyfriend?” he demanded. He better clear things up once and for all or else sleeping in the same room would be awkward.

“Don’t you want to be my boyfriend?” Always so cocky and it’s grating on Tatsuya’s nerves. He took a deep breath. He doesn’t want to blow up on Ryo and end up waking the whole house if not the whole neighborhood.

“Are we even dating?!” He asked again.

“I guess that means no?” Ryo said with just a hint of disappointment.

“No! I mean, yes! Urgh! Whatever!” Tatsuya is getting frustrated with this conversation. Questions being answered with another question. Conversation going in circles.

Ryo seeing his change of mood thought not to push it or else he would end up with a black eye. “You never went out with anyone else and you always say yes when I ask you out. So it’s safe to assume that you like me too, right? You even let me sleep over and took care of me when I’m sick.”

“That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re my boyfriend, you know? I believe it should start with a confession but you never said anything! How am I supposed to know you like if you won’t tell me? And how did you come up with the conclusion that I like you too?” Frustration disappered but was replaced with some amusement and happiness?

“Well, everyone likes me. No one can resist me. Not even you. And I thought you knew! You never said no to me. You’re always there. You even let me scare away people hitting on you,” Ryo explained.

Tatsuya shook his head. Why did he ever fall in love with this conceited bastard? “In your twisted mind, how long have we been going out?”

“A year. That’s why I introduced you to my family. That’s long enough for a serious relationship, you know. And I’m moving in next month,” Ryo stated without even a hint of embarrassment.

“Wow! I didn’t even know I have a boyfriend for a year now! Honestly Ryo, next time have the courtesy to ask. And what do you mean you’re moving in? I’m not even entirely sure that you are my boyfriend,” he said with an eyebrow hiking up.

Instead of answering, Ryo moved closer. He caressed Tatsuya’s face tenderly running a thumb lightly on his cheeks. He was looking at him with an expression that screams of love and affection. He didn’t notice that he has closed his eyes until he felt Ryo’s lips on his kissing him softly and lovingly. He was surprised to say the least but it didn’t take long till he was kissing him back. It ended a little too soon for his liking making him think that he’s in a weird dream and he would soon wake up.

“Would that convince you that you are my boyfriend?” Ryo asked.

“Maybe,” he said. Ryo smirked and kissed him again. This time, passionately with Tatsuya all but melting into that kiss. He felt like his knees would buckle so he latched himself on Ryo’s neck effectively drawing them closer. Ryo responded by pulling him by the waist while the other hand snaked through his hair to the back of his neck kissing him deeper. By the time their lips separated, both of them are panting due to lack of air and something else.

“Fine, you’re my boyfriend but you are not moving in next month,” Tatsuya said in between his pants. Ryo started to protest but was cut-off when Tatsuya continued. “You’re moving in as soon as we get back to Tokyo.” Ryo laughed as he picked Tatsuya up and carried him into his room.

A/N: So how was my comeback fic? Did I fail? Figures. I guess I haven’t fully recovered from my writer’s block. I’ll make up for it later.
