help_pilipinas Kazuya woke up to the incessant ringing of the doorbell. After putting on his shirt, he dragged his feet to the front door, eyes still half-closed. What greeted him was the smiling face of his seven-year-old niece, Emi, who lives just a few floors down. It's normal for her to come up during weekends to play and there's no telling what time that will be.
"Ohayou, Uncle Kazu! I came to play!" she chirped happily bouncing on the balls of her feet.
"Good morning, Emi-chan," he greeted back as he opened the door wider. He stooped low so Emi can kiss his cheek. She pet the dogs that welcomed her at the genkan before rushing towards the master bedroom.
With a smile on his face, he headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. He's mixing the pancake batter while the coffee is brewing when he heard her squeal. Chuckling to himself, he turned to the pan to cook the first batch.
A few minutes later, he heard her say, "Go horsie! To the kitchen where Uncle Kazu hides!" followed by a giggle. Not a few seconds later, his bed-haired and pajama-clad boyfriend, Tatsuya, came into view with an energetic little girl up on his bare shoulders.
"You know the drill, kiddo," Tatsuya said when they stopped in front of Kazuya. Emi grumbled but covered her eyes. "No peeking", he jokingly warned but he's already given Kazuya a peck on the lips.
As expected, Emi took her hands off her eyes and looked down. "Why do I have to cover my eyes?" she whined while Tatsuya put her down on a chair by the dining table. "Daddy kisses Mommy every morning too. So why can't I see you kiss Uncle Kazu?"
Tatsuya ruffled her hair. "What makes you think we're like your Mom and Dad?" he asked.
"Cause you sleep in the same room." she answered. Tatsuya laughed which made the little girl huff in annoyance.
"Emi-chan, what do you like with you pancakes?" Kazuya called out from the kitchen.
"Blueberries!" she responded completely forgetting why she was sulking earlier.
After breakfast, the rest of the morning was spent playing hide-and-seek, running around the house or playing cards. Kazuya would sometimes smile fondly watching Tatsuya and Emi play around like father and daughter. The same thought will sadden him moments later remembering how much Tatsuya wanted to have a daughter. A dream that will never come true because he came into Tatsuya's life. His deep thought was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell.
"Emi-chan, time to go home," a beautiful female voice called out as she enter the living room with Kazuya.
"Mommy!" she shouted, running towards her. "Uncle Tatsu made me ride his back while he's doing push-ups!"
"That must have been fun!" the woman responded. She turned to the two men and said, "Thanks for looking after Emi and sorry if she bothered you so early in the morning."
"It's nothing. It was fun playing with her," Tatsuya replied with a big smile on his face.
"You two should come down for dinner some time," she said while walking towards the door, little Emi waving sleepily at them.
"Yeah, that would be fun," this time, it was Kazuya who answered closing the door after his sister-in-law and niece.
It was later that night while watching a movie, when Kazuya decided to voice out his earlier thoughts.
"Ne, Tatchan, is this really okay?" he asked while cuddled next to each other.
"Hmm? What? Are you uncomfortable?" Tatsuya asked pulling him onto his lap. "Is this better?"
Kazuya gave him a playful smack but didn't pull away. "Baka, that's not what I'm talking about." he said, circling his arms on his lover's neck. "I mean, you've always wanted to have a daughter--a family. Is this really ok? Us?" he mumbled, trying to keep his voice from breaking.
Tatsuya held him tighter and whispered to his ear, "Kazu, I love you. When I said that years ago, I meant every single word. When I say it today, I still mean it the same way I did back then." He held Kazuya's face in his hands and looked into his eyes. "When you came into my life, I don't want anything else--no one else. Just you." Sealing that promise with a kiss that made Kazuya's doubts vanish.
