Resilience and positive attitude are some of Filipinos' characteristic that made them withstand the worst storms and calamities. And I've seen it manifested yet again last night when me and my husband volunteered to help out at the evacuation center. Just like this boy whose smile shows innocence and hope despite of where he was when this picture was taken.
Yesterday, I made a post
here about the typhoon that hit Northern Mindanao, Philippines.
Hundreds of people flocked the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology to find shelter. Most of these people lost their homes and others lost their loved ones because of Typhoon Sendong.
And for us volunteers, who helped out in distributing food and basic necessities, it was a humbling experience. Students, workers, people of all shapes and sizes, regardless of ethnicity and religion, even those who were victims as well, worked together to help those who are needs more.
It was tiring but fulfilling in a way that can't be monetized. Seeing a smile of gratitude on someone's face for giving them food or a change of clothes makes my heart swell in happiness. I am thankful I was made an instrument to help even though it was a small gesture.
Below are some of the pictures taken at the evacuation center. It was photographed by a good friend of my husband.

MSU-IIT Evacuation CenterWhat I've witnessed strengthened my belief that life can throw you on worst situations but it depends on you what your attitude towards it will be. Will you let it crush you down or will it strengthen you?
I request for your prayers for those affected and those who lost their loved ones. For those who would like to donate cash, you can send them via
