So stuff that has happened...
once again I am in Durham and have been for the last week, which incidentally is DUCK(Durham University Charities Kommittee) week. The high of this week is to be "hit" at dinner, whereby people pay for their "so called friends" to be soaked, humiliated, covered in food, foam and whatever in the name of charity.
Personally I give to charity if I a) know what the money is going towards and b) if it isn't going to result in making people suffer and not enjoy a meal that is at the best of times mediocre.
So DUCK week is not my favourite week and Van Mildert DUCK committee seemed more interested in soaking people in a sadistic way then actually raising money for charity. Actually all the things done for DUCK are a bit self centred, hitch hike to Amsterdam, great an excuse for a holiday and yeah we'll give a little to charity, trek Kilimanjaro - another opportunity for a holiday in Africa!! Rip off.
Other news -
I was hit by a van this week. No shit! I was walkign on the pavement down Church Street when a blue transit van that was obviously far too close to the curb hit me with its wing mirror! It didn't hurt or anything but the thing that pissed me off was that the guy just carried on didn't see if I was okay or anything, he could have broken my arm for all he knew!
Wing Chun was good as always, went over some basics again, blocks, kicks, punches si-lim-tao.
Kendo wasn't as good, it was more challenging this week but not great. There was a guy there who hadn't been the last two weeks I'd been there, he was making us do some difficult drills, I pulled a muscle doing lunges. Then he proceeded to scream at the top of his voice all the time and critise everything. I mean I've been there twice before and we were doing things I'd either only just learnt last week or never done before! He kept telling me my feet were wrong and pointing out faults. Great I need to know where I'm going wrong but maybe a little encouragement!
Playing Basketball tomorrow in the Mildert DUCK tourney. No-one knows I'm playing and I'm sure half the guys wont know who I am anyway (freshers and some second years), so I'll be a surprize for most of them, a 5'7'' ball player who they've never seen before ^_^ Little do they know I coached Mildert for 3 years, was captain for 1 year and was on the team that won the durham college championship last year. Should be good fun.
On the writing front. ITGOD is being done slowly. I have the first chapter finished and I really like it, the second chapter is almost done. The second chapter is a bit of an introduction piece but I need more description, it just seems liek a lot of dialogue, need to cut it down and give some more detail really. I have a chapter/plot map drawn up (done a few weeks ago) and slowly but surely I'm working through it.
Robot story (still untitled). I've been thinking about it a lot. I have a few new ideas and even though the first chapter was finished I'm going to start again. I have more idea of what to do with the storyline, a better feel for who the main character is and what will happen to him. Wanted to make him more vulnerable and less all powerful, superhero stories are good but I feel that heroes should be flawed. Also been doing some sketches for the art work (Robot story is to be a series of fully illustrated novels/graphic novels done in collaboration with my cousin), will scan and email to my cousin Matt later next week.
Next week is going to be a week of computers, I'm doing a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) module which is almost entirely computer based. I've done GIS before and am quite proficient with the IDRISI program we will be mostly using so it shouldn't be too hard. I want to try and upload all my digiphotos and start my website again next week. Then I'll be able to put my poems, art and some excerpts from my stories online again.
That's all really, got to do some reading. Laters!
