I did a freezer yesterday.
This wasn't suppose to happen. I've worked my way up to ensure I don't have to do the shit jobs anymore, I give the shit jobs to others, I take it easy at work and I get paid and praised for doing this. You'd think that after 4 years of working with this stupid company I'd have some sort of influence over my 'colleagues'. Apparently not. I'm sent away, without a thought to my tremendous importance to the entire stocktaking industry. Banished to an icy HELL BOX for at least 15 mins!!
So theres me, 'The Golden Child', at a 7/11 walking into a freezer about to stocktake the fuck outta it. I'm thinking, "man, this freezer is fucked. It's never seen the likes of me. A mean mighty unclean stocktaker with numbers racing through it's head" I was in the zone walking in, practicing sums in my head, I could see pi to like the 106th decimal point. I stood at this freezers door mentally attacking it with divisions and subtractions. I could sense it was afraid, but not as afraid as it should have been. It was in the presence of the Golden Child. Not many freezers survive an episode with me.
I place my hand on this door handle and I can feel this confidence growing within my opponent. I'm disturbed by this, it's placing doubt in my mind, a doubt that could fester and contaminate my mind until even the smallest addition is troubling. This would be devastating. It's only 7:05, I have at least another 10 more hours to go today.
Pushing this as far back in my head as possible I open the door and POW!!!!
COUNTERBLOW!!!!!!!!!
The freezer is a fucking mess. Seriously FUCKED. There's ice on the floor making it slippery to walk on, there is melted ice creams that have frozen to the shelves which makes it impossible to scan AND gets your hand all sticky. About 90% of the boxes are still sealed which stings your hand when you try and open them. The light didn't work. It was about -20 degrees. On and on this goes. The freezer had prepared. It had done it's homework and was a force I didn't expect.
That battle lasted 45 mins and i walked away with a red stingy face and couldn't feel my fingers for at least 20 mins afterwards. Not to mention a bruised ego and slipping confidence in my abilities.
Today Golden Child met his match and forever I will hold a twisted respect for the freezer at 7/11 Sunnybank.
