Pay-to-play and CYA

I mentioned "pay-to-play" as part of a 'worst' change in the 5-question meme. Let me clarify that for the folks who have asked or yelled...

I am not rabid about this issue. I can see both sides, and am, if anything, still ambiguous about it. I see advantages for some geographic regions and no impact or negative impact on others. However:

• The various rules implementing it cause headaches that previously weren't there. Including things like Glenn and I having to scramble to find Duncan's membership card whenever either one of us is going to an event with him.
• If we could stop beating this dead horse for a while maybe we could make progress on the real end date for the SCA or even maybe solve world hunger!?!
• More bad cess has happened -- for at least 15 years! -- over this issue than anything else I can think of.

And so on and so forth.

So -- this is why I think it's a bad thing.
