"Charmed" -- best and worst episode in one.... (A Fashion Horror Story)

Nov 29, 2006 18:08

I just saw one of my favorite episodes of Charmed -- not one of my all-time top series, but I liked some of them in the first couple of years.

It's called "Happily Ever After" -- "An evil witch traps the Halliwell sisters in distorted versions of classic fairy tales, where Phoebe attends a ball as Cinderella and meets Prince Charming, Paige has a taste of Snow White's poisoned apple, and Piper encounters a big, bad wolf, as Little Red Riding Hood." Sean Patrick Flannery is in it, and looks charming (ah, yeah) in a tux, and there are 7 nice little men who show up to take care of Paige and build her a crystal casket.

I like it because it talks about how fairy tales are a) morality tales, and b) not originally as sweet as they are these days.

I also like it because I love to hate the dress that Phoebe is wearing to the Ball as Cinderella. My Gawd. I've never seen anything so truly dreadful.

I haven't been able to find a picture: here is a description from a reviewer named Brandee Mode: http://charmed.tktv.net/Episodes5/synop/2.html

"The dress is white, which is the only good thing about it in my opinion. The top is strapless. The bottom is basically a mini-skirt with a long bundle of frilly, lace hanging from the front of it and a wide train hanging from the back. There is a really big bow at the small of her back."

I found a picture of the top (only, alas)

and here's a tiny thumbnail of the only picture I could find on the dress itself (the Polish Website it was linked to is apparently dead)

The front of the dress is a miniskirt: There is a panel of silver lace in front, about 8 inches wide, (hanging as if it were a curtain right over her groin) and a broad train with a bustle-y bow.

Sorry, I so rarely have raptures of horror about clothing...
