Now, I want my Gold Star!

I did my good deed for the day.

After I dropped Duncan's homework backpack and instrument at his dad's house so D can work on homework when they get back tonight, I came back in the route that takes me past the elementary school.

Apparently all the kickballs (the softer rubber ones) had gone over the fence during one of the recesses -- 8 or 9 of them, in differing colors, were lying in the road, in the bushes, in the curbs...

So I stopped, and picked them all up (not at once -- those things are slippery!) and pitched them all back over the fence. This delighted 4 or 5 small girls who were out collecting balls inside the fence, and their teacher, who had apparently foreseen going around outside while her class ran wild on the field.

Turns out there were almost 12 in all, hiding in the bushes, in the gully (the girls were ecstatic about pointing them out to me). I asked the teacher if any of the balls stayed on the field. "Only if there's no wind," says she.

Wild.
