Have you heard of the City of Louisiana? (It's not a train.)

reynard52 has this excerpt from Keith Oberman today;

This clip came across the SCA's West Kingdom Pelican list. I was surprised to see it there, but am reluctantly glad to have seen it. Charmaine Neville is a singer, a musician, in New Orleans. This clip is an interview with her about her experience stranded on a rooftop in New Orleans -- and how she and others essentially rescued themselves. It took me three tries to watch it all the way through.

I know I'm biased -- Hell, I'm downright hostile about our current administration's management of "protection and safety" for us all, and I have been since before 9/11. "Disaster management" and preparedness are not exclusively limited to terrorist activity, folks.

But between that editorial, and the video clip, I've about lost all my patience with listening to any politician about these things. We laughed when the joke about JetAir and alligators and "airline food" came around. Have you heard before that tape about alligators eating live people? I hadn't. Dumb me. I should have realized it. (One of my HS classmates was on that plane; they never found all the parts of his body, or that of his new bride. That joke became a lot less funny...)

Between us, between the several thousands of us on LJ in the US, we could have done a better job protecting these people by driving to LA and Texas and Miss. and carpooling them out of the town. We had 3 or 4 days warning.
