I was at the Berg watching a movie with some RLS. I had to leave to make it back to Earp by 9, but it was raining outside. So I took the Walker Complex doors. Inside was a gaggle of younger girls and I cringed inside a little. I was walking up to go past them and one stops and looks straight at me: "I really like your sweater!" She said, commenting on my white H&M zip-up (thanks Jenn). The girls then interrogated me.
"What's your name?" Said the girl who commented on my sweater.
"Patrick" I said.
"Are you Irish?" Said a different girl.
"No, but I am French" I replied.
"Ohhhh, my dad's french!" Said a girl at the back of the gaggle.
"Cool!" I said.
"Hey, my brother's name is Eric, that's a french name isn't it?" Said another girl.
"Yeah, actually I have a brother named Eric" I said
"That's so cool" One of them said.
At this point I felt kinda comfortable with this group! So I actually took over the convo.
"So what are you guys doing here?" Me
"Oh, we were going to the pool, but its closed" Them
"Oh no... That really sucks! What are you guys going to do now?" Me
"We don't know, we have to wait until 10 to get picked up" Them
"Oh wow, that's a long time! Why don't you guys go to the library. OR the computer commons!" Me
"Are we allowed?" Them
"Yeah, everyone can use them!... Oh, wait, you need a login... Sorry..." Me
"Oh..." Them
"Yeah, but I have to go, I need to be back in Residence by 9"Me
"What's that?" Them
"Residence is a place where you can live on campus" Me
"Oh, that's so cool!" Them
"Yeah, its a lot of fun! But I really have to go... Good luck finding something to do for the next hour" Me
"Bye" Them
That one interaction made me feel not so bad about children, little girls to be more specific. They were very happy and inviting.
Unrelated or not, in The Hallway of Extreme Temperatures I found a loose 10$ bill! I know they have nothing to do with each other, but if I believed in signs, this would be God saying "Thanks for talking to those girls".
But in the end, I won both ways, 10$ richer and a feeling pretty good about myself. Awesome
