Finished the flashback sequence. Inordinately proud of it for the moment - it needs a lot of polish & cleanup, but I really like the structure, and I think there's at least one genuine 'oh shit' moment where you suddenly realize something horrible's about to happen. Only five new pages, replacing about four pages of wrong-track material, but this puts me over a plot speed bump that had been troubling me for weeks, so hopefully it will be full-steam ahead again Tuesday.
Been listening to Eva Cassidy's I Know You By Heart the past couple of days on repeat as writing music. Normally I stick to soundtracks when writing, songs with words tend to distract me, but this is so hauntingly beautiful and sad - appropriate music for a ghost story. (It could also be interpreted as a song about a breakup, but I think of it as being a song about death). Give it a listen if you've never heard it - link is to YouTube.
