Just when we all thought I couldn't be more afraid of sp*ders... I get bit/stung/sucked on/whatever they do by one of the damn things, and swell up so bad it requires surgery, and a round of anti-biotics.
Good times.
My leg hurts, man.
Not to mention the emotional aspects for a severe arachnophobic, such as myself.
Mom and I moved our storage unit on Wednesday (yes, Valentine's Day), because they're remodeling, and need to demolish the one we were in.
I saw a sp*der so large, I told Mom it had a mouse in it's mouth. She killed that one, but there were others around... obviously, one of them decided I looked like lunch, and attacked my left calf.
So, it was just itchy and annoying at first, and then, Saturday came... I woke up, and the side of my leg was all bulged out. I went ahead with my plans to meet up with Mike, figuring that the Motrin I took would take down the swelling and pain.
Mike and I were out to lunch, and I was like "dude, this really hurts," and he offered to take me to Kaiser Permanente (the health system I have coverage with through my Union), which wasn't very far from where we were eating.
So, we went to the emergency room (where they also have a non-life threatening clinic dealie), checked in, and didn't really need to wait very long.
We were both treated very nicely, and we were done (including waiting for the prescriptions: anti-biotics and Vicodin) within about two hours, which isn't bad. It also only cost $35 total. Nice.
So, basically -- the doctor had me lay on the table, gave me about four shots, all around the border of the lump, then cut me open with the scalpel, irrigated it with saline (I think it was saline, anyway), then packed in some gauze that will be removed at my follow up appointment on Tuesday. Mike watched, and gave me the info, since I couldn't see any of it (which is a good thing, of course).
Doesn't sound like it would hurt much, but trust me, it does.
Anyway, that's how my day went. ;)
