It feels all too natural to pull the trigger. Halfway through the list Kate follows him to his hotel, kneeling over him on the bed, weapon cocked and pressed against his neck. "I don't need you," she hisses.
"Of course not," Ben says, hands tracing her thighs. She trembles as he calls her bluff, pulling her against him as she drops the gun, the taste of stale diner coffee and second-hand smoke strong on his skin.
"I hate you."
