Reward Time: Reading for fun

Aug 06, 2011 20:54

Reward time. I finished revising rewriting a manuscript which has rested for quite some time. It wasn’t an easy rewrite. It involved cutting a pov and scenes that I loved. Now, I’m down to tweaking and waiting for critiques to come back-which means it’s time to be good to myself.

Here’s the reward(s) which will be landing in my mailbox any day.

I’ve ( Read more... )

I'm reading (well besides certain manuscripts - ahem) Libba Bray's Beauty Queens which is hysterical! I just bought Will Grayson/Will Grayson and the Bermudez Triangle today, both LGBT YA books. I also have a big stack from the library though how I'll have time to read in the upcoming months is a mystery to me!

I have a couple of half-read books. But they're moving slow and I'm in the mood for getting lost in a book.

Do I see library fines in your future?

I'm funny about books I really want to read. I either manage to get them as ARCs or wait a bit and then read them slowly--sort like waiting to unwrap Christmas gifts rather than rushing.

I may have posted this anonymously via twitter, but wanted to own my words, so I'll post again.

I stopped at the Brownell Library last week, so I've got a good stack of reading. Open now: Michael Cadnum's FLASH. I'm reading it for pleasure at the moment, but may go back and look at how he dealt with multiple povs in third person. That's the way I try to read everything--for pleasure first. I suspect that comes from six years on the Green Mountain Book Award Committee, where the first question was, will teens want to read it for pleasure?

I'm laughing because sometimes I have a hard time getting over the reading for a purpose and back to the reading for pleasure. To me, one of the marks of a great book is when I forget about the learning and just want to dive into the world.

I'm glad to know that teen's pleasure is the committee's first question. It's the one that makes the most sense.

Fairfield has a fantastic new library, but it's still a bit empty. I've been passing on as I read.

Thanks. There's more work to go, but the hardest part is over.

What a wonderful way to reward yourself for all that hard work! I just read THE HELP last week (I know, a little behind the times. Ahem) and very much enjoyed it. Sometimes it's good to just read whatever your little heart desires.

I haven't read THE HELP either :(

But I 100% agree. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in what I believe I should read, that I put aside something I'd truly enjoy.

I've been doing this with sequels lately. Book two may not be as good as the first, but I feel like I have to get through it.
