NHS Dentistry Whinge

DS went to the new dentist for his initial checkup. He hasn't looked after his teeth properly (sigh) or seen a dentist for about a year. It turns out he needs 2 wisdom teeth removing (1 is badly infected & needed immediate anti-biotics) & Lord knows how many fillings. The dentist won't now take him on as NHS & wants over £600. We have been chased around MK from Dentist to Dentist as they have each privatised - so have no long term arrangement with anyone. It makes my blood boil. I hope your DS gets his teach sorted in a timely and cheap manner!

NHS dentistry is one of my pet peeves as well. No-one seems to have adequate provision no matter where they live. Why can't the service be run in the same way as doctor's surgeries are run? That way everyone gets the chance to see someone.

Hope your DS gets himself sorted out.

Its disgusting isnt it!!!!! I wasnt able to find an NHS dentist when i moved to Kent in 1997, so have been private since then.... :o( I dont go very often as i just cant afford to!

It can actually be cheaper to go to Prague, Budapest or elsewhere and have dental work done in the context of a short stay with sightseeing thrown in as well or even as a one-day trip. There are a number of companies advertising that they organise such trips. I'm thinking about a couple of implants at the moment. Hungarian prices are approx. £550 compared to the £2000 British dentists want. Every other procedure is similarly cheaper there.
