I've just finished the December issue of The Progressive. There is a poem in every issue of the magazine; this month's is by Wendell Berry. I hope this isn't violating too many copyright laws, but it struck me so powerfully. If the spacing is strange, I'm merely trying to use some rudimentary html to reproduce the look in the magazine.

According to John Taylor Gatto, he was given a copy of this poem and told it was written by a high school senior in Alton, Illinois just two weeks before the student committed suicide. I think it's sadly haunting ( Read more... )
