Just a little bit of CM character speculation to fill my evening.
So instead of studying, I've been watching CM. Obsessively. Repetitively. Eye-burningly. This is a sickness people, but I'm in no hurry for a cure. And I've got a few questions/comments regarding some of the main players (and tread carefuly folks, this is in no way ordered, logical or original, it's a stream of pure Patchthought). So, Hotch. Was he abused, or not? I dunno. I doubt it was by his Dad, because in his conversation with his little bro, he seemed to rather admire the old man. If his Dad was abusive, I'd expect some sort of "that man was a bastard, we're better off without him" type of thing. So my vote is no for Dad-abuse. His mother, maybe? Grief-stricken after his Dad died, took it out on poor Aaron? Yeah, as you can probably tell, I've got nothing.
Speaking of fathers though, I'm of the opinion that Garcias may have been an asshole. We know he and her mother are divorced, because she mentioned a step-father (not that all divorced parents are assholes, but it could mean there was some type of family disfunction, or whatever). She also mentioned that her father said he wasn't surprised that she didn't get into medical school. Now, I'm not sure if that was meant as a light-hearted joke, or if he was being cruel and demeaning her. I'm also wondering if she may have been talking about her step-dad - if she's taken his name, that leads me to believe that he married her mother when Penelope was still young (maybe he even adopted her), and she therefore thinks of him as her father. Hmmm. Questions, questions.
Part 1 of The Fisher King wasn't aired here, because I think they'll air parts 1 and 2 together as a "movie length season premiere", so I only saw it on DVD last week. Since watching it, I cannot get behind slash pairings involving Hotch. No offence to a lot of slash writers (and there are many, many brilliant ones in the fandom), but I'm totally attached to the Hotch/Haley pairing. They're adorable together, and I really, really hope the writers don't go down the "job has ruined the marriage" path, because they're just too sweet. And it's gotta be said, smiling, happy, pirate-hatted Hotch? Is to die for.
Mandy Patinkin is an incredible actor, but I seriously hated Gideon a little in this episode. Okay, I know Garcia was irresponsible, and her mistake endangered the safety of the team, but. . . . she was so sad! How could anyone talk to her like that?!? I totally love Garcia, and I just wanted to hug her in that scene - and give Gideon my scariest death-glare. He was mean, and it'll take me a little while to forgive him.
Morgan was so cute with his "that's such a good answer!" line when he wanted to ditch Elle to go and flirt with the bikini chick. I giggled a little. And I totally loved Elle's sarcasm at the Jamaican policeman. I loves me some pissed off Elle.
In typical Patch form, I've waited impatiently for the S1 DVD, watched it incessantly, and now I'm more than ready for the S2 DVD. I'm not sure how well I'll deal with this, but I'll try to fill the gap with fic. Oh, but speaking of S1, the extras were awesome. Meet MGG was great, I loved him in his "Carnivale" suit.
But back to my spec. . . . oh wait. I don't have any more. I am made of fail.
