As I stated in my last post, I think we could all do with a little bit of lightness and escapism right now. It's been a day of tears, so I for one could do with some vampires and some lols. Care to join me?
Last week's True Blood, and some Comicon:
*I might never stop cracking my shit up over drunk, naked, swimmy Eric. "KROKODILLUR!" was pure gold. He's really sorta cute when he's all confused and sunburnt and "stay with me". But, he drank the whole fairy and now he has to go to his room.
*Sookie needed Alcide's help because ... weres have always been so good with wayward vampires? IDK, but whatever, we got to see naked!Alcide, and you will never hear me complaining about that. I'm already anticipating Debbie becoming batshit crazy again, which I don't know if I'm down with or not - I loved her when she was all maniacal and scary, but i'm starting to really feel her as a cute blonde in a floral dressing gown. She's so sweet, I just want to hug her and help her recover - except for the part where it's probably not real and she'll be threatening to tear people apart in an episode or two. Besides, if she breaks Alcide's heart again, that fictional bitch will have a very real Patch to contend with *nods*.
*Bill vs Pam was quite an entertaining face-off (hee, face. Off. I see whut i did thar). Pam and Nan both seem to have quite the knack for tormenting King Bill, and as much as I love him, it's fun to watch.
*Was it just me, or did Kirsten's accent seem to slip a little in that scene a few times? Usually she's flawless, that's why I noticed.
*Poor Bill, I actually felt sorry for him when he was trying to search Sookie's house. He just doesn't want to make her sad anymore.
*But hee. Bill. Portia. Incest - surprise! I mean ... look, it's not really incest in a Hotshot sense, is it? It's not like they knew, they're certainly not direct relatives, and it was consentual. I tend to be of the belief that whatever two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home is their business as long as they're not hurting anybody, so incest is a tricky issue. Hotshot is skeevy, because they're direct relations who were raised together as family, and it's all rapey and abusive and inbred, not to mention all the underageness that is going on. Bill and Portia, well, she is a direct descendant, sure, but there's 5 whole generations separating them. Not that I'm suggesting Bill should continue to schtupp is great-granddaughter, just that it happening by accident isn't what you'd call the worst thing in the world, is all. Besides, it was funny as hell.
*I am officially Caroline Bellfluer's new biggest fan. What a great old Southern dame, demanding whiskey and her "bible". And yes, Andrew, you will have a sweet tea, because I totally agree that Redbull is vulgar.
*Hotshot. Now, people are getting butthurt over this in much the same way that they did about the headtwist!sex of seasons past, and I'm running out of ways to say "change the channel". Of course, rape is gross and scary, and not a laughing matter. But this is fiction. Rape is gross and scary in Law & Order: SVU as well, but it's still something that happens in real life, and therefore gets used in fiction for entertainment purposes. As long as it's not played off as "oh well, it's okay because it's Jason, and he has sex all the time" - because rape is NOT sex - then I'm okay with it. And obviously, if they do that whole "it's not rape because he's a man", then that's just lazy and wrong. I don't think they will though, True Blood is pretty good at depicting their male characters as real people who experience real trauma. Hearing that blonde chick call "next", was so icky, and so ... Hotshot. I kind of feel like I need a week-long shower after watching a Hotshot scene, so to me that's proof that they're doing it well. And eeewwwww at Felton telling poor little Becky to "tell uncle-daddy Felton all about it". Gahhhhh. Squickkkkk. And I really felt for Jason in that scene! He's pissed as all hell about being abused, but Becky is a whole other story than the other girls, and he just cannot be having with that.
*Arlene, Terry and creepy devil baby just got a whole lot freakier. The doll might be demonic, but that damn baby is fucking evil, I don't care what anyone says. And that whole creepy changing stuff in a split second has creeped me out ever since the kid did it in The Sixth Sense - remember when Toni Collette left the room for a second, and when she gets back, Haley Joel Osment hasn't moved, but all the cupboards and drawers are opened? *Hides under the bed*
*Jason and Jessica. Well, we all saw that coming, yes? He's had her blood now, so he's going to be having erotic dreams about Deborah Ann Woll Jessica like the rest of us.
*Marnie is growing on me. I like how she doesn't seem to really care that she's in danger of being killed by vampires, she's just offended that they interrupted her gathering. And she doesn't like cussing, it ruins her concentration. She's kind of a crazy, harmless old hippie with a spellbook - it's her spirits and ghosts and possessing things that do all the memory-erasing and face-melting. I think she likes the idea of having the power to control the dead, but hasn't really thought through the implications yet. And be careful with her hundred year old books, people.
*Tara, Lafayette and Jesus are trying so hard to stay out of bullshit and trouble this season, but it is not gonna happen. Especially now that they've gone and helped Marnie/Hallow fuck Pam's face up. And hee, Pam did a Ginger scream before she ran away.
*Pam in corset. Yes. You saw it. You watched the scene 7 or 8 times just to stare at her boobs, right? You know you did. I know I did.
*Tommy and Melinda seemed ... off, in that first scene. Like, it was almost badly acted, or overly Southern and not quite hitting it's mark, or something. Of course, it could have been intentional, being that both characters were lying to each other, but it just didn't feel right. BTW, Tommy, you are a shifter. Change into a moth or something son, and get your ass the hell out of there, or else we might have to see Joe Lee in his undies again.
*Hee, Nan Flanagan re: Salem. "A bunch of neurotic puritanettes in need of a good lay". I love her. I want her to run my country.
*Sam, Luna, Luna's daughter, Luna's crazy ex. That's going to turn into a thing.
*Where the fuck are all the following people: Holly, Lettie-Mae, Bud Dearborn, Ruby-Jean, that guy John who worked in the kitchen back in season 1, Mike the coroner, Hadley, Hadley's kid, that Katarina chick, and all the other various one-shot people we've met in seasons past?
*Big Mama Kitty. Yick.
*The preview! OMG, the preview. I think Tara is going to go all Buffy on us, and use her Franklin trauma as fuel to become a vampire killing machine. I think Lafayette wants out, Tara wants in, and Jesus will get caught in the middle because Lafayette will try to protect Tara. I think Pam will try to kill Naomi as a revenge thing. I think Marnie/Hallow and the rest of the coven will succeed in controlling vampires, and that's why Jessica walks out into the sun - I hope she doesn't die though! I think Jessica and Hoyt are over, at least for now. I think Sookie will end up boning both Alcide and Eric this season. Andy's V addiction is going to land him in some serious hot water. The baby will burn Arlene's house down, and for a while she'll think Terry died inside (he won't though, because Terry is too adorable to die). Tommy will escape his parents, kill Joe Lee, and become a skin walker, but while he's impersonating Joe Lee, Sam will kill him, not realising it's his brother. Sam will then be a skinwalker too. When Eric finally comes to his senses, he'll deal with all this witch bullshit, but will believe that Lafayette never wanted any part of it and order will be restored. Pam will turn Tara next season. Luna's ex will try to fuck with Sam, but Alcide will wolf out on him. Debbie will turn into a psycho bitch again.
*Comicon: aside from some cringingly embarrassing fans, it looked quite entertaining! Can't wait for the season 5 flashback of Eric creating Pam. Loved everyone's answers to everything, especially Ryan and Stephen. Adored Janina being in the audience.
It's been a long day. I think it's time for Hoarders, a chocolate milkshake, and some much needed rest.
