Fandoms

I haven't been on LJ for a while, and that's because certain people in certain comms are pissing me off (and before I go any further, I am absolutely NOT referring to any individual members who are on my flist - I love y'all like icecream with skittles).  I mean ... it's only fandom, y'know?  Like, don't lose your shit completely just because someone else doesn't love your OTP - that's really not healthy, adult behaviour.  Okay, I know I pitched a fit of excitement regarding Paget and AJ coming back to Criminal Minds, but ... I was sort of exaggerating, because this is LJ and that's what we do - most of us, anyway.  I mean, I AM legitimately excited that two of my favourite actresses are returning to my favourite tv show, but ...I tend to sort of keep that excitement to an appropriate level when I'm off LJ and out mixing with the normals.

My point is, there are certain members of certain communities who have been describing their utter fangirling of certain celebrities when they met them in person.  Each to their own, and I'm sure the celebrities in question are grateful to have fans ...but is it really that difficult to act like a functional human being when you're in the presence of someone who happens to be kind of high profile?  You know, so that you're not a complete embarrassment to those of us who like that show/movie/actor/singer in appropriate, as opposed to psychotic, amounts?

I've met a few celebrities, some more famous than others, some I was a huge fan of, some less so, but at no time did I act like a squealing lunatic and humiliate myself.  Celebrities are famous people, sure, but they're also just people.

And for the record, I've met Fiona Horne, Marcia Hines, Kirstie Alley, Ozzy Osbourne, Ice-T, and the members of Machine Gun Fellatio, as well as another person who will remain nameless because we ... did bad things ;)  I'm not saying this in order to be all "omg, intrigue, please tell us!!!!" It's just that ... this guy has a career, and a life, and doesn't need every aspect of his existence plastered all over the internet, y'know?  We're adults, it was great, but it was a one-off.  As for whether that makes me a starfucker, well, it's not as if I shagged George Clooney (unfortunately!),  but in terms of how well known this person is - well, he's not what you'd call an A list celebrity or anything, but if I told you his name, chances are good that you'd know who I was talking about without having to google him.  Put it that way.

What I'm trying to say is, I wish people wouldn't be such douches.

whining, celebrities, people suck, livejournal, ranting
