waking moments

the other day john and i got into the conversation of getting to sleep in bc we both came in at 3 in the afternoon which is kind of sucky bc it's so late and kind of good bc you get to be lazy the entire day until that point. i told him i like to enjoy my "waking moments" on days like that. he asked me how the hell do i enjoy my waking moments and then made a crude joke like usual.
somtime during the spring i think i was reading in a magazine about enjoying the first moments you have when you first wake up. i really liked the idea since a lot of us seem to jump right out of bed and right into thinking about all of the shit we have to do for the day and automatically start to go over lists in our heads. enjoying your waking moments gives you a chance to enjoy your day more. for me it feels like those mornings when you wake up on the vacation you took with your friends. you don't have a specific agenda (thank god) and you can leisurely waste a lot of time having fun, laughing about silly things you said the night before and finally dragging yourself out of bed once you get hungry enough.
since i usually don't have to be up early for work i have the luxury of doing this almost every day! lucky me. i usually wake up and go over the crazy dream i was having a few moments ago or wake up and try to forget it. i reflect upon the nice breeze coming through my window and sometimes scowl about the cigarette smoke wafting through my windows from the neighbor but then i move back to how the sky looks and what type of day it will be outside. sometimes i like to read articles and learn new things or search for fun places to go on vacation or often i will catch up on movies that have been in my netflix for months that i have never gotten around to watching just to find out it was a really good movie after all! and sometimes i just think about funny shit that has happened in my life and i cackle about it for a few minutes. laughing is such an important part of my life.
so i encourage everyone to enjoy their waking moments. instead of dreading the day or what is ahead of you, you can think of all of the positive and fun things you might encounter!
monica at work was commenting about how i am always smiling or laughing. i can't help it. it's just who i am. but what is there NOT to smile about. i'm really happy right now. financial issues aside things are pretty fantastic which is really cool! my friends are coming to see me soon and then my mom for christmas and halloween is on it's way and fall time in the desert is approaching. i have to make some people go pumpkin picking with me! and i need to go apple picking! i have no idea where the closest apple farm is but i need to go there! and then maybe i'll make an apple pie with all of the apples i get. fall is my favorite season and i'm not going to let the fact that i live in the desert take away my new england-ness.
my job is planning on having people go to the Autism walk on Nov 5 ( my mom's birthday!) and i'm really excited to go. i already got approval from my boss. It's in santa barbara which is about 2 hours away sooo that means 1)ROADTRIP! with some of my fav work peope and 2)fun fun fun times after the walk in santa barbara with my fav work people! it's fun to see work friends in their normal everyday state. everyone can let loose and relax and then you get to see a different side of their personality. plus we will be helping to solve the autism puzzle. too many kids are being born autistic these days. clearly we are doing something wrong. must be all those weird growth hormones and pesticides we put in our food! haha idk.
