Here is a question for all the other old folks out there: does it ever strike you as strange when you see These Kids Today drinking coffee
( Read more... )
i don't think i recall any highschoolers drinking coffee when we were there. and that's the North Shore, man. if coffee was hip, it would have been all over GBN and GBS. i don't think i had my first cup or even froo froo coffee drink until the summer after freshman yeart of college when i was working at Einstein's in Glenview which was then called The Bagel Shop. :)
it's all about TV. i don't watch the OC but i do watch Gilmore Girls which is all about minors being addicted to THE BEAN. :p
. Sometimes people would have a cup of crappy joe when they were, like, at Denny's at midnight or something
ah, the Denny's sober up, LOL! (can't say i ever participated in it though. i was a good girl. )

Ha, me too! I didn't drink until college. I actually don't think I didn't anything "bad" in high school. Denny's was the only place late, so we ended up there during the summers a lot. (And sometimes, I admit, the other people there may have been sobering up, but never me!)
i'm almost positive it's gone. i think i recall Corb and i having a moment of silence for it when we drove by about a year ago. i could be wrong though... i haven't gone that way in awhile.
Denny's was our big hang-out, too. They had a $3 minimum purchase, so I always ordered a cup of coffee and a strawberry shake, thus the beginning of my caffeine addiction. We never drank in high school, but we more than made up for it Freshman year.
Every Saturday and Sunday, Brady and I make coffee together in the French press. He scoops the beans in the grinder, grinds them up, and presses down on the filter while I handle all the boiling water stuff. As a reward, he gets a large shotglass of coffee diluted 1:1 with whole milk. I hope this isn't enough to stunt his growth. God knows it IS enough to make him run around the house like a maniac.
I'm pretty sure that it's just a myth that coffee stunts your growth; it's more the giving of caffeine to kids that probably don't need the extra stimulation that gives me pause... but if you want to chase after him on Saturday mornings, more power to you! Although at this point, you can leave him to his own devices without worrying that he will drown himself in the toilet or something.
It sounds like a lovely ritual, one I know you've written about before so it obviously means a lot to both of you, and I am sure Brady will really look back fondly on it when he's grown up.
