Well I had yet another round of interviews at dream job. Three hours of interviews. CRAZY. This is exhausting. I hope the job is easier than getting hired. References are being checked as we speak. Very exciting. Plus I got to speak at length about the beauty that is Eric Ripert. Not often you can do that and call it work.

Meanwhile I took a break from all this hunting and writing...and of course wishin and hopin....to visit Deacon and Jim's new wine store in TriBeCa. I had worried that all off to the side as they looked on the map that they'd have absolutely no foot traffic whatsoever and they'd really have to market this son-of-a-bitch to make it a destination worth travelling to. Um, I'm stupid. It's the ground level of the condo building the NY Times keeps writing about because Meryl Streep, Harvey Keitel, all sorts of business people that for one reason make it on to Page Six, and as of last week Gwennie Paltrow and brood have bought lofts in. No worries. They're the only game in a very rich town, and resident after resident came in to buy and say "thank GOD there's something here now!"

They had a tasting that night, a nice young vineyard in Oakville. I just laid out their materials so I could write about them using their name and everything, but somehow I've lost track of it all. What I loved is that they are making California wines in the Old World style. Which means everything that I hate about Old World (austerity, thinness) is missing, but they're toned down so they're not as ... obnoxious shall we say? as a typical Cali wine. As I said to her "some of these cabs explode in your mouth...and I don't mean in the GOOD way." They brought in an Italian Vinticulturalist to teach them how to grow a sangiovese grape properly. So the wine with sangiovese was this full bodied but refined wine. Very elegant. (And expensive)
