01 - We're Not In Wonderland Anymore, Toto

Jul 29, 2010 02:08

We pan in on our hero, Hatter, in his home in 915 Bilko Boulevard. By now, he's been awake for approximately six minutes, staring at the ceiling. No, he wasn't slowly waking from a groggy sleep, comfy in his bunny slippers as he realized he wasn't in his office ( Read more... )

[I SHOULD HAVE LOOKED HERE SOONER. AHHHH.] not_oflegend July 30 2010, 03:20:41 UTC
[And Alice just happened to be out for a walk around town, she she tended to do now when she had a lot on her mind. She's wearing one of the dresses from her Mayfield closet, so of course, looking very 50's housewife. However she is wearing the coat that Hatter had lent to her in Wonderland.

She's halfway down Bilko Boulevard when she spots Hatter and stops dead in her tracks. She's imagining him, right?]

Hatter?

IT'S TOTALLY COOL MAN I'M SO GLAD YOU CAME XD passthetophat July 30 2010, 04:01:33 UTC
He was about to turn and go inside, to get out of his white and blue pinstriped PJ's. His mind focused and his face was that of silent, determined concentration, but as soon as he heard his name being called, it was completely wiped and replaced with a look of wide-eyed surprise.

He whips around, and it still takes him a second to process.

"...Alice!?"

I'm glad YOU came. ;____; not_oflegend July 30 2010, 04:06:39 UTC
[Okay, so she wasn't imagining it. She just hoped Mayfield wasn't playing some new, cruel trick on her.

Without warning she ran at him, and wrapped her arms around him as she was known to do.]

Hatter! You're really here.

He picked her up without even realizing it, spinning her around once. Mayfield was temporarily forgotten, damn the place, it couldn't be that bad if it presented him with this.

He pulled her back, holding her by the elbows at arm's length.

"What are you doin' here, you're supposed to be home,"

[She gasped a bit at the sudden move, but smiled.]

You don't have to tell me that. I've been trying to get home for months now.

That little thought disturbed him, it'd been a few weeks in Wonderland, and time obviously moved much more slowly in Oyster world. He'd hoped to find her without so much time passing, so that maybe she wouldn't forget him.

"I'm sorry." He paused. There was a lot he wanted to say, but as usual, his ability to say it to her went right out the window. He tensed, trying and failing to keep his composure, and attempted to cover it up with his lighthearted humor.

"Lost my hat."

[She looked at the top of his head, noticing there was indeed, a lack of hat there.]

They take away everything here. But sometimes the send things in the mail.

[She paused, thinking for a second.] What are you sorry about?

He looked frustrated, running a hand through his foofy hair, before tunring his attention back to her.

"Alice, I..." he paused again, giving her that vulnerable look, before following up with, "Oh, to hell with it,"

He promptly tugged her forward, ducking his head down to meet her lips in a swift, fluid motion. If she was going to judo-flip him into a back-breaker, let her do it, he had to get that over with before he lost his nerve.

[No judo-flips or protest from her. She easily falls into the motion of the kiss. She moves her arms from around his waist to slip around his neck and pull him closer, deepening the kiss.

She had missed this.]

After a few moments, when he feels like his knees can't quite handle it anymore, he pulls back and rests his forehead on hers, eyes completely closed, because as silly as it sounds, he's a little afraid to look at her.

Once he regains his composure, he can't help but ask,

"What will the neighbors say about my passionate, adulterous throes?

[She laughs a little at the question, suddenly thinking of the newly droned husband back at her house. But then she frowns.]

If we're not careful, some of them will unfortunately have a lot to say about it.

He arches an eyebrow, and scratches at the back of his neck.

"I was only jokin'." He doesn't quite get it, having only been here a few hours, so he still has a lot to learn about not taking this place lightly.

[While she'd much rather just enjoy her time with Hatter, she knew there were things that needed to be explained before that.]

Has anyone told you what's going on here?

"The gist of it, town snatches people an' marries them off, run by a cop and a mayor, impossible to leave, kids are drones. Also, they took my hat."

He slings an arm around her shoulders and pulls her in close again.

"Also, that there are people I need to get in touch with. You know me, what I do. I could help 'em."

Okay, A) not all the kids are drones and B) you forgot about the brainwashing.

If you get caught breaking any rules they brainwash you into acting like drones.

"April said somethin' about them dronin' you for short periods of time, not really sure what it's all about, though. Personally, I don't believe in bein' hypnotized. Bunch of Oyster superstition."

He paused.

"How exactly do drones act?"
