She's halfway down Bilko Boulevard when she spots Hatter and stops dead in her tracks. She's imagining him, right?]

He pulled her back, holding her by the elbows at arm's length.
"What are you doin' here, you're supposed to be home,"

"I'm sorry." He paused. There was a lot he wanted to say, but as usual, his ability to say it to her went right out the window. He tensed, trying and failing to keep his composure, and attempted to cover it up with his lighthearted humor.
"Lost my hat."

"Alice, I..." he paused again, giving her that vulnerable look, before following up with, "Oh, to hell with it,"
He promptly tugged her forward, ducking his head down to meet her lips in a swift, fluid motion. If she was going to judo-flip him into a back-breaker, let her do it, he had to get that over with before he lost his nerve.
