So here we go, my first post for my (1st) 100 things meme challenge. I figured I should start with something big..
#1: My couch
I moved out to South Dakota with a U-Haul truck, my car, and everything in the world that I own... which included very little furniture. When I got here, I knew I wanted to get a couch to be able to lounge on, before my family drove off with the U-Haul. We went shopping at the 3 thrift stores in town (yes, 3! in a town of 10,000 people- one of my favorite things about this place), back and forth between them, and I put a $10 deposit down on a really ratty couch with the fabric and cushions all torn up.. if it was in better condition I would have loved it because of its unique coloring and pattern and wood on it..but in the state it was in, it was questionable whether I could fully relax on it. Then my sister and I drove to a town a half hour from here to check out their pawn shops (of which there are several), Goodwill (which had no furniture), and a furniture store (ech to new, boring, and expensive!). Just before they needed to be on their way out of town, we checked back once more at one of the thrift stores in town, the biggest one with by far the most furniture, New 2 You:
One of my parents spotted a couch at the back of the store. I remembered having glanced at it from afar and ridden it off for some reason.. I guess I thought it looked ugly. But this time, upon a direct view, I knew it was the one. It looks like it belongs in a log cabin, a style I go for because it reminds me of how much I love being in a cabin close to nature.. what the wood smells like, the inviting and cozy way those places are decorated... My apartment (in an old ~1920's house) doesn't look like one of those places and the other furniture doesn't match, but who cares! And it's got enough space for 4 people to sit on, or me to stretch out on (which I've done a whole lot of) or even sleep on (which I was doing for awhile when I was sick of my uncomfortable mattress)
Purchase Price: $100, negotiated down from $125
Condition: Very good. One tear in the material on the bottom (not the fabric), a scuff on one of the legs, one zipper cushion pinned together (not visible), and a portion of the wood from a leg came off the other day (could be easily glued back I'm sure). Not the MOST padded under ones butt after sitting on it awhile, but not too bad.
So now when you see my location on my posts marked as "my couch", you can picture what I'm sitting on.
And welcome to any newbies and 100 Things followers! Feel free to introduce yourselves and comment as you wish. I love getting comments.
If I end up leaving here in whatever I can fit in my car only, I will miss it.
