Femslash Exchange dear Author Letter (2017)

Feel free to have a look at the other prompts from other years, if you feel like you need inspiration. My prefences haven't really changed that much :)

As for the requests:

Fandom:Person of Interest (TV)
Root | Samantha Groves/Sameen Shaw

On the whole, I love villain couples, I love couples who bicker and snipe at each other, who are aggressive towards each other, who are occasionally in a pretty unhealthy relationship, and for most of my fannish career I've only seen those couples in M/M configurations, with the occasional M/F thrown in, but never a F/F one. Root and Shaw gave me that, though, and I am so delighted about it. Their sex scene in 6,741 sums up everything I love about them: it's violent, it's hot, it's passionate, and neither of them backs down even for a second - you just can't keep track of who's on top, literally and figuratively.

So. What would I like to read for these two? Definitely sex, if you're at all up to it, and kink is very much encouraged here - the D/s overtones are pretty heavy in their on-screen relationship and I'd love to see that explicitly explored. The only thing that I don't wanna see is Shaw being too submissive; I've got no problem with her being the bottom in a scene or something, but I just can't see her as going down without a fight. She's rebellious and snarky and fights back to the bitter end, and imo that's one of the things Root enjoys in her. It would also be interesting to see the dynamics switched around, have Root be the nominally submissive one ("hood and zip ties in a CIA safe house with ten hours to kill"). But, like I said, no need to go explicit if that's not what you want to write. I just want more of their interaction and their relationship, no matter how.

In terms of plot ideas, I'm not very enthused about drastically different AU's - the setting is what makes the pairing work, imo. And there are a lot of in-canon options: an after S5 thing where Root comes back somehow, a sort-of AU where Root and Shaw's meet-up doesn't get interrupted, a stolen moment somewhere after Shaw escapes in S5... Whatever works. As long as you have Root being her usual sadistic, clever, flirty self and have Shaw be sarcastic and blunt and unsentimental against that, I'm happy.

Fandom:Black Sails
Eleanor Guthrie/Max

I loved all the f/f relationships in Black Sails, in all their complexity, but this is one where I kept feeling frustrated with how little it was explored. We only see the end of the relationship, really, and I'm dying to know how they got together. The bit we saw was Max comforting Eleanor when she was stressed out - was it always like that? What is Max getting out of the relationship? Did they have relationships with other women before that, or was it a first for both, or for one of them? etc etc.

A bit of bitterness of sadness is fine here, I just wouldn't want to read anything onesided (as in "Eleanor only loved Vane and Max was just a distraction" or "Max just used Eleanor for her own reasons", things like that). But it is a complicated, and occasionally ugly relationship, and I really don't mind seeing that explored. In fact, anything too fluffy and simple would feel a bit off, here.

Fandom:Doctor Who
Thirteenth Doctor/Missy

I love the relationship between the Doctor and the Master, particularly in two of its versions: I loved Simm's version in his unhinged furious glory and the abuse-and-hate-filled relationship that still somehow had care and friendship and love beneath it all; and I -somewhat surprisingy- loved redeemed!missy, and the way she was still sarcastic and impatient and campy while still working with the Doctor instead of against him. I absolutely adore the way they known each other so well, the childhood friends-gone-wrong - the speech in World Enough And Time, where the Doctor is reminiscing about the Master, was perfect to me. Not just the wistfulness and the pain-and-love behind it, but also its casual attitude towards gender.

So, for Thirteen... I think I'd love to see her with a redeemed Missy, maybe one of the two looking for the other after the end? Accidentally bumping into each other?

This is a pairing where I don't particularly want to read explicit sex. If that's where it takes you, go for it, I won't say no, but it's not that necessary to me? They're aliens, after all, with different kind of drives. Basically I just want to see them like we did in World Enough, still mocking each other and flirting, but on the same side. And, y'know, women.

Fandom:Merlin (TV)
Morgana/Morgause (Merlin) Morgause/Nimueh (Merlin)

I am a sucker for the whole Old Religion narrative, and I adored Morgana as a tragic hero in Merlin. For me, I could almost sometimes see a story where Morgana is the Good Guy, trying to keep her own religion and her world alive and safe, with Merlin and Arthur being the Bad Guys, who want to destroy that world. I enjoyed Morgana a lot, her slow slide towards "evil", the constant feelings of betrayal and hurt and loneliness, her fear... Nimueh, in her way, had quite the same voyage in a way, being trusted and belonging in the court, and then suddenly seeing everyone she loved killed and prosecuted and she herself banished, all because she tried to help Uther. And then there's Morgause, this beautiful badass who strides in fully armoured and takes down Arthur, who's to the end so full of care for Morgana...

But in the end, we didn't see that much of them together. These three women all played most of their roles alone, and it's frustrating to me. I'd love to see what Morgause and Morgana were up to while she was gone, how Morgause took care of Morgana after being betrayed. And same with Morgause and Nimueh: we know they met, we even know Nimueh trained Morgause, but what the relationship between them was like... I'd love to see anything about that explored.

Fandom:marvel netflix
Jessica Jones/Patricia Walker (Marvel Netflix)Fanfiction
One of my problems with femslash was that most of the couples I found where kinda sweet, wholesome, in healthy and fulfilling relationships - which is nice, but not necessarily what I wanted to read. Jessica and Trish, however, struck me from the start with how complicated their relationship is. It's very very clear that they love each other a lot, but at the same time it's difficult. Jessica is a mess, distrustful and self-destructive and isolated. Trish gives off this impression of being sweet and innocent but the flashbacks to her youth show that that's not the entire truth. I mean, I do like how supportive they are of each other and how Trish definitely is a positive influence on Jessica's life, but they're both survivors of abuse and any relationship between them is always going to be difficult and rocky.
The first thing that springs to mind is hurt/comfort of a sort, with Trish being one of the very few people who Jessica trusts, who she would let take care of her. I'm also very intrigued by the way they were before the show started, how they got off on a rocky start but somehow got to the point where they so deeply love and trust each other.
On the whole, I like how raw Jessica is, how she drinks and fights and curses and how she's struggling with what she's been through. And Trish, I really enjoyed how level-headed she is, how no-nonsense, and the way she deals with Jessica like that. So anything that takes those two things into a story would be lovely. I don't think I'd like something too fluffy; they've been through a fucking lot, after all. But happy endings (or at least, happier endings) are very much encouraged.

Anyway. If there's anything else you wanna ask, feel free to send me an anon message on tumblr. And have fun with it!
