So she's effectively become a Stars Wars addict. Right now, my young daughter is on the floor watching the original Star Wars. It all started when Rich put Return of the Jedi on a couple fo weeks ago. She was entranced. The obsession continues. She's seen them all now and is a non-discriminating fan. Episodes I through VI, it doesn't matter. They are all good in her book. Though, in general, there are more questions when we watch Episodes I through III. Earlier in the week, she asked me to make her hair like Princess Leia. So I braided her piggy tails and made them into little buns. (That's a good as it gets with me.) She was thrilled.
I suppose we shouldn't encourage her obsession, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems. There's violence, but it's not the same type of violence as in movies now-a-days. She gets the good guy/ bad guy thing and appears to understand what's going on. I think a lot of it this infatuation is related to her interest in the strange characters. What seemed to catch her attention first was 3-CPO and R2-D2. (Are those supposed to be spelled out?) Anyway... I suppose this is yet another example of our bad parenting skills. Any one have any thoughts on the pros and cons of continuing to allow her to watch these movies? Some how I completely missed the original Star Wars craze when we were kids. So this is my first real foray into the original movies. It seems like what I remember of it is that it's mostly just a good vs evil story. Nothing has made me cringe yet, so I think they are safe. (And the only part I can remember of the most "current" movies that was overly violent was when Anakin's body was destroyed and we thankfully missed that when she watched that Episode.) Hmmm...
