Oh hey I'm in Spain
We're having a very lazy day off and I'm loving it. It's been SO LONG since I've had time to myself so I'm taking full advantage of it. I'm glad others are around who feel just as lazy as I do. We watched Dispicable Me and episodes of America's Next Top Model and some horrible comedians Allie is really interested in. That girl just....she got on my nerves so badly today, I was ready to walk away from it all. Ugh.
Our convos got me thinking. It'd be fucking crazy if this shit was recorded like a reality tv show. Nickie would be the loud and super fun, bubbly one. Lily would be the gorgeous one everyone was rooting for due to her low self-esteem. Alex would be the wild-child that would often be misconstrued as the bitch of the group. Sam would be the soft-spoken independent one who was really progressive and of her generation. Allie would be the young, inexperienced one that's a constant stream of random facts that some would find endearing and others would find annoying. I really feel like I'm the neutral one, which could come off as kinda boring to others which I'm totally cool with. Cameras would follow us around and we'd have a little room where we could vent our frustrations and stuff. Ohhhh things would get real sooooo quickly, oh my god. Alex with her fling and Lily with her self-esteem issues and Allie with her health issues. That drunken night they had would have been a favorite episode, I'm sure of it! It would document the lives of archaeology students by mixing those that are experienced and those that have never touched a trowel. We also have the language barrier issue and being in a completely new environment.
I'd watch the hell out of that show.
It would have all the drama and the talking shit and the exciting hikes and the fucking lake and the issues at the bar and the drunken brawls and the sexual tension. What's not to love.
Anyway, trying to download books for my kindle and it's just not working. All the books I want cost like ten bucks and it's like, I would rather have the hard copy if I'm going to be spending that much on one. I looked up comics and they only have the full books instead of single issues. What the hell kindle, isn't this your only function??
Good thing I got my Star Trek books to hold me over. Money well spent, let me tell you. I'll have plenty to read on the way home.
The countdown begins: by this time next week, I'm sure we'll all be packing together. This hostel is a fucking mess, it's going to be a pain packing everything back up! And the heart breaking thing is, everyone else here will be leaving too, so these three rooms full of students will be bustling with the noise of everyone packing things away. Ohhh it's going to be tough.
So this is our last real day off. Tomorrow we go back to work and it'll be our last "Monday". Wednesday will be our last day of real work, our last day of lab and lecture, and our last day at the site. That might be the last day we all have lunch and dinner together too. Thursday will be our last field trip day and our last party night. It will also be the last night we sleep in our hostel beds together. Friday will be the last day we have breakfast together, the last day we take down our laundry from the clotheslines, the last day we see the lake outside our windows.
Allie, Nickie, Lillie and I will leave Sant Llorenc de Montgai on Friday evening around 4 so we can get to Barcelona by 5, leaving Sam and Alex behind. We'll ride the train and get into town that night so we can all share a final dinner together at a fancy place down the street from the airport. That's when Allie and I will have to say goodbye to Nickie and Lillie.
If we're lucky, we might meet at the airport but it's highly unlikely. Allie and I will get to the airport by 7am on Saturday morning to catch our 10:30am flights. That's when I say goodbye to her. And then we're gone. After a month together.
It's going to be harsh. I gotta mentally prepare at some point...

That kid needs to learn quick.
It's time to get ready for dinner. Since it's our day off, we have to get dinner ourselves so there's this cute little town about a mile away that has a restaurant with a menu in Spanish, not Catalan. I'm soooooo excited! Still in my jammies so it's time to put some pants on. Yes.
