So yeah, I tried to run on Tuesday at 6:30pm. BIG MISTAKE!!!!
It was still 90 degrees at 6:30 so I didn't get nearly the training that I had intended. I was shooting for a 5K at the new intervals and ended up with 2 miles and "running when I felt like it." Honestly looking at the numbers, I didn't lose much in the heat other than a mile. I really think I started out too fast so that didn't help.
On the bright side, It was great heat conditioning. With the coming summer months and my work hours, training is going to be tough. It looks like my choices are going to be running at 5am or acclimating to the heat. This is only my second summer of running so we shall see how well I acclimate back to the heat and humidity.
2 Mile Training Run
Average Overall Pace- 14:04
Average Running Interval Pace- 11:50
This morning was a completely different story. I went for my 5K at the new intervals and I accomplished it. The more I run this new routine (run 3 minutes/walk 2 minutes), the more I am realizing that I AM capable of doing more. I ran hard this morning to try and improve time and I did just slightly. It was a 36 second improvement overall, over last week. I am certain that if I condition this well, I can hit a sub 40 5K almost every time.
I am one happy kid
5K Training Run
Average Overall Pace- 13:36
Average Running Interval Pace- 12:00
On a side note: I get so frustrated that I can't run fast. Seriously, I see people running 10 minute miles and I get jealous. Forget the people that run 6-7 minutes miles... that is just insane to me.
I know I should be happy. In 14 months I have progressed from a 55 minute 5K to 39 minutes. I cut a whole 16 minutes off of my time. That is reason to celebrate. I just wish I could focus on the positive... it doesn't always come easy.
I need to take baby steps. My goal for the moment is to run a 12 minute mile. Once I reach that I will re-evaluate.
I need to find a way to get my spunk back. I went back and read some of my earlier journal entries from when I started running and I am hell-a funny. I think I have started focusing too much on the numbers and the "business". I need to bring the party back to this journal.
