Tip Tuesday... Never say can't
So I realized that my work trip to Charlotte would put me on town over a weekend with a free Saturday and nothing to do. So what else do I turn to? Race Calendars. I found a local race in Charlotte and decided to give it a go.
I ran the 8K road race. I figured approx 5 miles, no biggies. I needed the mileage anyway in prep for Nashville. However someone forgot to mention that this is a hella hilly course. I am happy to report that I finished in 1:05:53 which is about 10 minutes faster than I expected. And I wasn't last. So it was a good race in my book.
Prior to this race, I was really scared of hills. While I still wouldn't call myself proficient or experienced, I feel a ton better.
Official Race Report
This race was well staff and ran really smoothly. Many people in the neighborhood came out on their front porch to cheer. There were 364 runners total in the 8K and a handful in the 3K run. The neighborhoods were beautiful and even the hills were enjoyable.
There were two water stations and post race food was your typical fare. The highlight of the race was the Elvis Impersonator. I am not an Elvis fan but he was very spirited and added a lot to the race atmosphere.
If I am ever in Charlotte, I would definitely run again.
